Im staying at the Hostal Mari for a few nights when I first arrive in Ibiza. I booked it through this site, has anyone stayed here before? If so, whats it like? Im on a budget so I know its not going to be too extravagent but as long as there are no cochroaches in bed with me then im happy.

I recently booked there for a mate, all the reviews from this site sounded good. Do a search for it on this board...

A friend and I stayed there in July 2002 for 4 nights... its not a bad place. There's no air conditioning, which was definitely something I could have used.

We were on a backpacking trip through Europe, and were accustomed to staying hostels (shared rooms), so this was definitely a pleasant change of pace.

The rooms are private, ours had two twins, and a bathroom. The bathroom itself was actually pretty nice... the staff stayed out of our hair, etc.

It's definitely not a hotel, and its very bare-bones, but our opinion was, how much time are we going to be spending in the room anyway?! :)

I stayed there for almost two weeks last year. The place did not have a fan, which was a bit uncomfortable on some nights and during the days when you are trying to take a nap. Other than that it is a very nice place and very clean. Very responsive staff; they maintained the sheets every day (on time). Good bathroom with plenty of supply of hot and cold water. Good flushing system. Fresh baked croissants every morning. Great espresso machine; the espresso was like tar (loved it). Most important of all very safe. It's a mom & pop operation, and they have done a good job.

My advice is that if you stay over there, bring a cheap fan from UK (about 15-20GBP) that you can discard at the end of the trip if you want, and you are set.

And I agree with Adam; why the heck spend a fortune on a place where you will spend time sleeping and taking showers.

Have Fun,

Hostal Mari

Two Essex lads are booking here in early September, it looks OK and from the reviews there seems nothing much to fear. I stayed in Barcelona for the last 2 years in July and the hostel there had no fan and I had no problem. I have no idea if its likely to meet up with any loose girls at this hotel (its hardly the Brisa) Sometimes the quieter hotel offers surprises!!! I think the place has a pool also.

Nope, no pool over here. The time I went there in late Jun/early July, it was pretty quiet, which was...okay. I personally like some action at the places where I am stay (if I am alone by myself). Essex lads looking for ladies to get laid; its got an amusing ring to it.

thanks for the replies, all I was concerned was that it was clean and safe and judging from the replies it is. I wont be spending too much time there its more of a base really thats why I chose a cheap hostal.

Stayed there in March when it was just about the only place in San An open. It was basic, clean and friendly.

The only thing I found disconcerting was when I was coming in one morning there was a couple of guys carrying a large joist along the street. I watched them go into the hotel and followed them up the stairs to see they were working on the room immediately below mine. They were using an interesting technique which seemed to involve removing the supporting wall then propping it with joists. :?

Still it'll all be sorted by now and those Essex lads should be safe even if they pull. ;)
