i dont see what the big deal is if anyone wants to claim they are 1/8 anything.

everyone should be proud of their roots whether you are descendant from germans, french, irish or feckin swiss. if people are proud of where they (as in their family) came from then let them shout it from the rooftops.

im scottish with irish descendants and am proud of both. i would always say i an scottish and i wouldnt want to be anything else but i am proud of my familys roots and wll be celebrating st pats day in limerick this year.

Why would I be proud of things I have no control over? My decendants had sex and gave birth to children in Germany and France. I had no control over that- They did. Basically, I was forced to be American of German and French decent. I am a musican, an artist and a student all by choice, and I am very proud of my accomplishments, but I had no say in my relitives. Tell ya the truth, if I had my way my decendants would come from Spain or Puerto Rico or Brazil- they got the parties goin' on.

I personally don't have a problem with people claiming their Irish decendency - or that of any other country. In many cases it should be recognised - there is a rich history to be uncovered for people. My problem is that you get some of these people claiming it as their nationality, ignoring their place of birth AND not knowing a thing about their 'counrty of birth'. You would not believe the questions we get asked - really unbelievable, they would take your breath away, they have clue about the country they are claiming as their own and THEN they claim they are Irish.......

I have no problem either. I just want to know why someone would be proud of something they had no control over; their or their ancestor's birthplace. Big deal. I'm not "proud" to be American. It's the only country I would like to live in and it is where I shall be buried but I am not "proud" of it per se. I'm proud of my accomplishments and who I am, not what my ancestors were.

I dont see why you take things so seriously its all a bit of fun isnt it...so what if peple claim to be irish/part irish....if they have irish parents then they are part irish!

dual life i cannot see why you dont think that your history makes you the person you are today.

every person still retains traits that have been passed down in their personalities, looks and character.

be proud of your roots. i am.

Good for you.

So I should be proud of the fact that I am corpulant (Ok, plump), acne riddled and myoptic? That is what my decendants gave me.

Genes matter less in the personality and Id department, that is mainly what I make myself into. That is what I am proud of. I am proud of what I made myself. I had no hand in choosing my decendants (as stated before I would have them be Spanish or Puerto Rican or Brazilian) they just are my decendants.

I am a good bass player and an artist and a poet. My friends have called me fun loving and well-adjusted. That is what I made myself. That is what I am proud of.
