will be shit this yr if they bring in the drinkin ban... the one day that ppl cum over to get absolutly pissed.. and they are tryin to put a ban on the bars openin till late in the evenin...
usually its a crazy pub crawl... majority of dublin is pissed by about 2pm if not earlier.. brillant day.. yeah so theres a parade and fireworks... its not the reason ppl go to dublin.. if your a child you'l love it but if your an adult its even better.... but i understand wen alot of ppl are drunk it gets messy but that will happen either way.. loads and loads of ppl dressed as leprechauns fallin over drunk, fightin,if it goes ahead.. ppl will just get drink in the night b4 get drunk at home and head to town wen the pubs open.. thers been up roar bout the smokin ban, thats not a favourite over here.... lol.. but takin away pubs the majority of patricks day is a bit harsh.. the irish wont like it bein the piss heads that we are...

naa i dont know anyone or anywhere that celebrates it over here, you live somewhere with a high irish population nitefly? i only know one irish person round here

I live in Cheltenham- there's LOADS of Irish here for the Gold Cup...it's mental in town, especially St. Patrick's Day. It's usually great fun but we did have some trouble a few years ago when a drunken Irish guy wouldn't take no for an answer from one of the girls in our group- even his mates were telling him to leave it alone but he wouldn't. Eventually one of his mates sparked him out and took him back to where they were staying. That said, that's the ONLY trouble I've seen here during race week.
What I don't understand is why all those 3rd and 4th generation American-'Irish', many of whom couldn't point out Ireland on an atlas let alone ever having been there insist on celebrating it!

I'm celebrating properly. Infusion is making a stop in Dallas before they hit up WMC. Should be a great St. Patties day/night...

what are you talking Shite for? way to go with reinforcing the stereotypes, this reads like the St Patrick's day edition of the Simpson's. Its the sale of drink to uncivilized scobes in Dublin from Off licenses that they are targeting, the Guards will be doing nothing except "monitoring" the situation. I say let them off, they only fight amonsgt themselves anyway, the filthy chavs.

I have to agree with you Ed.....while reading that post from kimmie I thought i was watching a stereotypical episode of the simpsons.
yes people go out and enjoy themselves on st patricks day and ireland and have a few drinks but the scenario that kimmie produced was a load of rubbish.

I also have a huge issue with this stereotype that irish people fight all the time. yes you see the odd fight in dublin on a friday and saturday night but what big city in the wolrd dont you see that. i go to all irelands football games home and away and irish fans are known as one of the best behaved travelling fans. ive never seen trouble on a trip abroad.

Later to the stereotypes, been to Dublin loads of times and never seen any trouble. Well looking forward to next week. Arrive Tuesday night, seeing the Chems on Wednesday, then onto Redbox for Emerson!!! Will be hitting the early bars I think

Anyone got any suggestions for the Friday night. Don't fancy Groove Armada at the box???

and at which point exactly did she say its coz there irish that they fight? she meant what usually happens on st patricks day, wasnt saying it doesnt happen in other places

shockingly stereotypical.... there's nothing, and I mean nothing worse than those little scumbags hanging around the streets with the sole intention of getting hammered and then giving someone else a hammering. They are a shame to us on the one day we are supposed to showcase ourselves to the world.
SpunkyMonkey, you're spot on about the fans and about the level of trouble in Dublin... .like any big city, if you want to find trouble then you will.
The Chemicals and Emerson are top of the bill for Wednesday - there doesn't seem to be too much on for Friday - try the Metropolitan, maybe Crawdaddy.

If local legend is to be believed, the St. Patty's day celebration in Boston, Mass., is the biggest one in the world. Exactly why I have no clue.

cause they think they're Irish.... all this 'I'm one-eight Irish' stuff does my head in....
They put green dye in some rivers in the States too!

is there a reason for them thinking this? just im a bit confused as to why its even celebrated in america, iraq will be celebrating it next! i agree with you about the scumbag thing aswell...i mean i just dont see the point in anyone fighting ever!

Apparently there was a large population of Irish immigrants that came during the great potato famine and made "Basstin" their home. None of the people there actually are Irish, they just think they are. Just like NYC and Puerto Ricans and San Fran with it's Asian population- very few are actually from that area, they are decendants, but not actually Irish, Puerto Rican or Asian.

I don't get the "1/8" Irish thing either. My decendants came from France, Germany, England and Ireland, from the 1860's to the 1910's but I'm none of those things, I'm American.

The confused identity disorder is even worse in Qubec. Everybody there thinks they actually are French. If you were to talk to one, they would say that they are French first, Canadian second. I don't care what you think you are, but if you were born a four hour drive from Buffalo you're certianly not French!
