im headin to ibiza on the 23rd and wanted to know how much is it to get a Spanish Sim card and where can u get them on the island.

Cheers guys

You can go to Movistar or Vodafone in Ibiza Town they are right across the street (avgda espanya) from each other. You can get SIM cards from approx 40-50 Euros and up..

I was told that just a sim card may not be good enough to just stick in your phone and go. I was told that you needed a 'chip' to make the sim work in any phone, these are aparently only sold in the 'dodgy' mobile phone shops.

Has anyonw else heard this or was someone talking b****cks?

It depends, many phone companies will only do phones that work with their brand of SIM card if you get it on a contract. (ie free phone but 12 month contract etc). Most phone shops will do phone chipping (as far as I know). However my phone works with both my spanish and english SIM cards. You don't know till you try it I guess.

I bought a Vodafone simcard last year for 18 euros including, I think, 10 euros worth of minutes. It worked in my unlocked UK mobile. If you've had your mobile for more than about a year your UK mobile phone company has to unlock it for you or you can pay about £10 and get it done in one of the backstreet mobile phone shops. It's basically just a matter of plugging a cable in and running a small program. So a tenner is a bit of a ripoff, but the data cable will set you back more...

Should be getting a sim card for the missus in the next day or two so I'll let you know what the price is this year.

I have just been on www.monstermob.com and if you go into 'cool things' it gives you instructions on how to unlock your phone..... but only if it is a nokia.

If you do this you can put ANY sim card in your phone, foreign or not....

Maybe this will save you some money before you go
;) ;)

Is it also for foreign calls as well not just for domestic?I mean even if you're calling a friend who's with you on the island the call goes first thru your own country, right

Iif you are calling to a foreign sim card its always an international call, the good thing about buying a spanish one is that when people call you they are the ones paying the international call, instead of you paying it (they pay mobile call and you pay international call)

If your phone is locked to the network, you will need to get it unlocked. You can do this either by calling your network & paying them around £35 or you can pay an independant dealer to do it for you for around £5-£10.
Best way to try is to stick a mates sim from another network in your phone. If that works then your phone is unlocked. Failing that, come & see me at the o2 shop that I manage & I'll sort it for you
;)

I tried to get a sim for my phone (sony erickson P800) and none of the shops i tried in Ibiza town could do it.

Does anyone know of somewhere i can get it done in Ibiza or a website that tells me how to do it?

You can get one here in the UK. log on to WWW.0044.co.uk This company will sell you a Spanish Vodafone card for £29.99 with nearly £20 of calling credit on there. - All ligit!) They will give you English instructions how to use it and if you have a Nokia phone, they will unlock it for you Free! If you haven't got a Nokia, phone, you'll pick up a cheap one somewhere or if you have a "knock -off" the IMEI mumber won't be blocked abroad so you're laughing. E-mail me at Bornslippy123.co.uk if you have any probs.

If you think I'm singing their praises a bit, thaey deserve it.... Top firm.

Problem is i´m in Ibiza now. Anyone know anywhere where i can get the phone unlocked in Ibiza?

It seems there isn't anywhere to get P800 phones unlocked on the island. Luckily Mrs T has a nokia and i was able to pay £5 over the net to get the code and instructions emailed to me, which worked fine.
