space birthday review

just spent 15 hours in space with rustywoo, some other spotlighters and other friends :)

MENTAL!!

we got there at 1 pm - I can't stress enough how important it is TO GO THERE EARLY - loads of room to dance and the music by dieter sin plomo, tania vulcano and especially tom novy was WICKED - hide you by kosheen brought the place to its knees.

steve lawler came on at 7 for the hardest set i have ever heard him play - he boshed it out finishing with full on trance (if anyone knows the name of his last track is much appreciated - big trance number with guitar breakdown and ethereal vocals - listen to mp3 sample here) - MENTAL again - steve played a sort of

"i'm, a bit pissed off cos mr. ladeez man erick is playing 'my' closing set, so i think i'll bosh it out really hard.... over to you erick"

we pissed ourselves and just loved the dancing with room on the terrace - brilliant. the moment erick came on the terrace went from nicely full to sardines. impossible. so we went upstairs to chill.

inside blackstrobe played the most amazing tech-influenced electro house - brilliant to dance to again. after that jeff mills banged out the beats like there was no tomorrow - i found it more melodic than the last time - place went wild for strings of life.

afterwards went to see what the fuss was about with smokin jo and tim sheridan in the red room (see www-space-ibiza.es for full report) - it's difficult to get in because the bouncers are strict on numbers - but please give it a try - it is so underground/backroom cool - really intimate wicked atmosphere and funky as hell music. smokin jo doesn't usually push my buttons, but together with tim sheridan - legendary.

without doubt one of the best musical experiences i have had at space - terrace was rocking, inside was rockin, upstairs was rockin - what a day!!

p.s. i believe mike and nel made it even longer than us ;-)

Sounds fab, I got a text from Russ on Sunday afternoon, I chose to ignore it lol ;)

PMSL @ Lawler and Erick the ladieeeez man

i knew space birthday party is gonna be a blast and obviously i wasn't wrong.
need to check it out next year, hopefully i can make it on those dates.

I had several texts throughout the day/night from friend sayin that the place was truely rockin...they said they didn't move from the far corner of the terrace nearly all day/night!.....oh how i wish i could have been there! :(

Hey James -- nice to talk to you and Russ on the Sunday evening! It really sounded like it was going off in there, and I wasn't too envious, honest ;) :D

sounds funking brilliant

so jelous...
must admit dont like it when i have been groovin all day on the same spot and then suddenly there are millions of peeps about trying to push me aside....

also any of you lucky enuf to be there next weekend its.... Danny Howells again and he was proppa rockin when i was there

Like James said really.

Erick was poor IMHO, following the truly astonishing set by Steve Lawler (btw, went up and shook his hand in the bar afterwards  ) Erick sounded very cheesy.

Finishin up with Jackson5 Dont stop till you get enough (yawn) and Tainted Love (double yawn), plus we had a few words from Mr Pepe about how "all of us are space" and then Erick led the terrace in a rendiditon of Happy Birthday to You, i thought i was gonna hurl. BTW, Tommy Lee woz jumping around the DJ booth, annother one of Ericks showbiz pals

The new outside roof terrace is absoulutely wonderful. Finally there is somewhere to sit and chill for a while. Important if you are there for 15 hours  . Its got great music too, chilled during the day and eclectic in the evening (PhatPhil)

Bit uninspired by the new dark room at space. it's a bit soulless now that all the bars and stairs have been stripped back. Jeff Mills was astonishing, a bit of a revelation for me to hear Techno played so well. Woz feeling a little weary by this stage to do him justice

Tom Novi Rocks. after the pretty dull Tanjia Volcano he really got bouncy on our asses as evening came. Sim Plomo who was on early pm was great too

Red Room is brilliant, tiny and no toilet. so basically if you leave the room to go to the loo you have to join the queue to get back in. Smokin Jo and Tim Sheridan are ace. NastyDirtySexyMusic indeed.

Good to see Mike&Nel, Broiler Bill, Piggy, canadian_nate, Flavia and the wonderful M.Fabulous Fab amongst others.

Musically, one my fave space sessions. in fact, i reckon it might have been my favourite space session of all. we did everything by the book ;)

Space: Theres' nowhere like it on earth. AveIt

It's just been such a huge track this summer (and I know what you mean about the "tranciness" to it.) Also, Lawler has been playing it in the end of his sets all summer.
Afraid i'm the world's biggest trainspotter !

Those two wussies left around midnight... :D

The day/night itself was great, though. Just had fun; especially inside during the afternoon and early evening. Morillo might have been cheesy, but I didn't care at that particular moment in time.

Comments:

- Fabrice is fun! Saw him talking to Mike and assumed he wanted to convert him to a weird cult. However, we ended up having a great discussion about music and life in general. Thumbs up! (Oh, and Fab, if you're wondering: it turned out that my arms were indeed sunburnt! 8) )

- That one dealer running around the place (short guy, glasses, extremely hyperactive and very, very friendly) got on my nerves at first, but his cheerfulness grew on me after 10-15 hours. :)

- Mike is a horndog when not sober. Right, Nellie? :D

- It seems I really should have stayed for Mills' set. But after chilling on the roof for almost 2 hours, the shock would probably have been too great. :(
