and she's a bit of a tv celebrity here as she did (or still does?) a politics show on BBC on thursdays.

I don't get it....
The whole article refers to the colour of someones skin. She is named as ''First black female MP''. Other references are abound ''Black Community'' etc...
We are only free of racism when all this is a thing of the past and seems ridiculous, just as having someone named as ''First bald woman MP''.
Maybe we should adopt ''Anglo African'' and get away from the ''Black'' word. At least it's a step in the right direction instead of referring to the skin colour which in this day and age has surely outlived it's welcome.

maybe we should not adopt any labels in describing 'ethic 'communities.

It was a blatant racist remark on her part and it's pretty obvious she was trying to be 'one of the crew' by using the language she did and making the remark she did, which implicitly accepts the very prejudices and generalizations which have no place on any segment of the colour wheel.

Sorry - not taken in by any of the 'whitewashing'. Just go.

swept under carpet. expect next close to bone comment by someone fitting the racial bill to be deemed offensive to some types of the human race to get hounded out and hung. namely a white mp, not from the red corner.

Anyone else in a public sector post (nurse, teacher, police etc yada yada) would have been told to get their coat. Double standards all night long.

I'm also sick to the back teeth of references to people's ethnic background prior to anything else.
