Snorkeling??

First time to the island and want to find an awesome spot for snorkeling....someplace where you can rent the equipment right there on the beach so we don't have to buy (like how they do in the caribbean). Also, some place that won't be too expensive or hard by taxi. Staying in San An for the first 3 nights, then Playa d'en Bossa the second two....any good recommendations?

Thanks! :)

you can buy really cheap goggles and snorkels in a million souvenir shops in san an. they'll do for a couple of days. i'm not sure about health and safety in the caribbean but i know one thing - i wouldn't hire a snorkel from a beach trader here, you never know what the person before you has been doing with it.

from san an i'd jump the ferry to cala conta for some great snorkeling or go out from the rocks past cala gracio (purely for ease of getting there).

at pdb i'd probably go near to the torre sal rossa for clear seas

I thought Cala d'Hort was a good beach for snorkelling as well. It's a great backdrop with es Vedra there as well.

Good quiet spots for snorkeling in Ibiza/Formentera? Staying in San An and Es Pujols. Thinking about getting one of those Star boats one day.

Stivi?

lots in ibiza phil. but marine life will depend heavily on when you're coming?

here are a few places I really like to go snorkeling
- benirras (just go far enough)
- cala d'en serra
- punta galera (amazing place, not just for snorkeling)
- also cala conta area is cool for snorkeling

haven't done much snorkeling in formentera so can't really recommend. but go for a paella to pelayo if you're there on a sunday - it's an experience!

also - check wind directions. no use going to benirras or cala d'en serra if there's strong wind coming from N or NW

Late September. Never done it before but looking for stuff to do that doesn't cost anything (also wanting to do punta grossa lighthouse and ses balandres walks).

Will be in Formentera Sunday to Wednesday so cheers for the tip! Got a silly cheap hotel for €110 in Es Pujols for 3 adults 3 nights. Looks nice too. Estudios Los Arcos.

ah cool, in september you still have lots of sealife so that's great.

punta grossa lighthouse is a great walk - it's actually not far. I wouldn't say it's dangerouy, just watch your step.

ses balandres is a favourite of mine, but this one is one to really do carefully. over easter someone fell and they had to rescue that poor guy/girl I've heard. this one is definitely not for rookies.

Aye that doesn't sound too good to be fair

Any others less hazardous but on a similarly epic scale? I suppose Sa Talia needs doing at some point, although i do prefer dramatic coastal vistas.

the cap d'es falco loop is spectacular. and even though it has a few really steep parts I wouldn't say it's dangerous. has some amazing views.

another great one is portinatx to the lighthouse and onwards to cala d'en serra. and obviously you've got quite a few in santa agnes and san mateo area, but these aren't as obvious and thus not that easy to find if you're doing them without a guide.

Nice one, cheers Stivi. Been meaning to visit cala d'en sera for a scope around that half finished hotel.

If you spot a rather portly milk bottle skinned chap flailing about in a tangerine snorkel like he is drowning (may actually be drowning) gimme a wave!

Wheres best to park the car for Cala d'en Serra? Top of the hill? Ive been on some ropey Ibiza roads in my time but that hill to the beach looks like a car hire excess insurance hot spot! Planned to go last year but turned and went elsewhere. Would like to check it out.

we always drive down to the ruins of the never finished hotel and park there.
