Hey all... am figuring on heading to Ibiza for the first time Sep 8 - 15 2004. It certainly is a long way off, but most likely I will be going not only single, but alone. Got lucky to find some great fares to get me from Western USA to London and then the recent BA deal from London to Ibiza (from Gatwick).

So, I'm a straight 30yo male, really like the concept of checking out the clubs and atmospheres, but would also like the chance of meeting single ladies and be in an area with other singles... I have this impression most people go there with someone, or with MANY others, and man, I have had such experiences with these folks that just 'stick to their group' in terms of associating with others... but, I also get the impression that the vibe in Ibiza is different, that it's overall friendly and people freely associate, no matter who the person is and their traveling situation. Comments?

Any opinions on what the area for single straight people would be? Will try to check all areas out once I'm there though, but wondering where to focus my efforts...

Much thanks for any input! [/list]

Hi Mate and welcome along. My advice would be to stay on the south side of the island. Your right in the middle of some great beaches, plus all the great clubs like Space, Pacha, El Divinos and the town centre.

I wouldn't really stay in San Antonio ( I have b4) as u tend to get alot of chavvy twats who's idea of fun is being abusive and disrespectful.   ( first experience of that last year)
and give the area a bad name.

Definately do give the area a visit tho to check out the sunset at coastline/mambos. You will definately have a great time and fall in love with the place.

Also I would have no worries about going on my own if I had to. Trust me you will always hook up with someone like yourself and nearly all people on the island are warm hearted dudes. ;) 8) 8)

Like Pete said, the better side is the Eastern/Southern side for Space, DC10, El Divino, Bora Bora type..... and they'll be loads of us out there in September so you won't be alone if you want to meet up! See you there!!! ;)

the advice about staying in Ibiza Town or PDN is probably best for you. Do a search and there's loads of old posts about these kinda questions.
Sept is a good time to go for you too. Fewer youngies around, more grown up(but not too much) party people around.

have fun

rubbish!!

hunderds of people go to ibiza on their own. You will always meet other people there. have no fear about going on your own.

enjoy.

Fiz,

i went alone last year and i was 30 too.

I had a great time, but it can be difficult to meet people because as you say, others tend to stick in groups, or talk to others who are in groups.

The other major difficulty is language barrier.......it's not a problem in San An where there are plenty of English, but Playa and Ibiza Town is mainly Germans, Spanish, etc and it can be difficult to communicate.

It shouldn't discourage you from going.........i went there with the intention of having a great time regardless of whether i met people or not, and that is what i did.

I met a spanish girl there but we couldn't communicate......she knew no english and i knew no spanish........it can be very frustrating.

If you know spanish, you have a head start.

Sites like this are great because you can organise to meet people from here before you go......at least that way you know you will meet like minded people before you get there. It takes a bit of the pressure off.

Never read so much crap in my life, my guess is this is nothing more than a badly disguised troll :x

I've never been to Ibiza on my own, but wouldn't have any worries about doing so if it came to it, plenty of people do. We even adopted a guy last year, we met him in the taxi queue at the airport, he was on his own and hung out with us most of the week.

Can't think of anywhere in the world that it would be easier to get by on your own and make friends.

I have never been alone and it seems unlikely that the opportunity will arise, but it certainly wouldnt bother me at all.

I know some are advising you against san antonio, buts its not as bad as everyone makes out, and I personally believe you have to expereince it at least once to make your own mind up, dont just judge it on someone else's bad experience.

Hope you have a blast!! :D

Well said my friend!!!! ;)

I've walked down a lot of the places you shouldn't walk down at 6am and am still in one piece. :D

Wayne has 18 posts and mentioned Ayia Napa?

.hey Wayne...........only boring people get bored ......went on my own twice last year....am about to embark on a 3 week trip to the USA, to hook up with some of the friends i met in Ibiza......says it all really........

east/south

hey, thanks for all of the responses and support, really, for going alone to Ibiza land!

vinylgroover - hey, nice to hear I'm not alone at the 30 and alone to Ibiza thing. :) yeah, I hadn't really thought of the possible language issues... I need to learn some spanish anyways though, concerning that... where I live in the US, there's a fair need for it anyways

andivokes- I was leaning towards san antonio in the beginning and since so many people poke at it (and some like coley having poor experiences there), I'm more inclined to at least stay a few nights over there and form my own opinion about it, but may not stay all 7 nights there...

I need to look more into the east/south areas though... any comments on places to stay there (inexpensive, but comfortable)?

ibiza solos

Hey Fiz,

have no worries about Ibiza....I'm going solo this year for the first time but other than a few minor concerns I can't imagine that being alone will stop me from enjoying the music, clubs etc. San An has changed a lot over the years..I first went in 1986 and it was carnage ! couldn't move for people and there was no real music scene to speak of then either. Avoid the west end of Ibiza town as it is rather dull, keep to sunset strip, the area around the windmill and the S/E region as mentioned... not because of any risk, just because it's a lot better there. By the way I'll be 37 this year !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Going back 2nd August.

Fiz,

San An is overrated in my opinion. Ibiza Town and Playa have a much more interesting and cosmopolitan feel to them. The pissed pommies have nothing to do with my opinion........i just found San An to be very uninspiring. I guess if you're into trance and hard house and intend on going to Eden and Es Paradise alot then it's the place to stay, but otherwise, Playa and Ibiza Town are where it's at in my opinion.

Can only echo everyone else really (Except Wayne of course who's obviously on another planet)
I went alone for a long weekend a couple of years ago & had a blast! But I'd definitely recommend hiring a car so you can move around more freely. Bora Bora is a great place to meet nice people & of course you can arrange to meet folks through the 'meeting point' forum on this sight.
Have fun!
