Oh I thought this was the thread for the report you promised...
PAH, she wimped out in saying anything again... so i guess she cant moan about anything regarding how i run the studio...
anyway, trip details below.
SAT: trekked down to Gatwick at 5.30am, arrived at 7.30am, checked in... mooched round for another 3hrs in the shopping bit, and didnt buy a thing...
got on 1st Qatar Airways flight to Doha... new one for me, and if info on their website is anything to go by they have a lot to live up to.
Had a seat nr the front end... in hindsight i shoulda asked for the rear seats in hope that it wouldnt be fully booked up. Had a screaming **** in row next to me who wouldnt shut the **** up.
apart from that service on flight was good. meals very nice for plane food..lots of it and it didnt all taste of salt.
got to Doha around, on time around 8pm local.
i read the airport was in the process of a refurb, and it wasnt complete... wasnt to say that what was complete was big enough for the amont of bodies going thru the place. 1 gents loo, consisting 3 stand ups and 2 sit downs... glad i went b4 i got off plane
had 4hrs to kill too... got given a food voucher for a "meal" (term used very loosely) - started to wish i paid the extra £150 for a direct flight instead.
only thing that softened the blow was 200 fags were only $12
plane left on time - every passenger got given a presentation pair of "jade" chopsticks and tortoise in a presentation box to commemorate the inaugural flight from Doha to HK. Flight wasnt booked up so had 2 seats to myself, which didnt really matter that much as the arm rest between seats didnt go all the way up
finally got to HK about 2pm local time, got on the bus back to my town to meet the old dear, went home, ate, went to bed at 6pm.
MON: woke up at midnight spent next 6hrs sat in bed wither texting peeps or staring at the ceiling as i could not sleep... got about 2hrs kip b4 having to get up to go out.
took some food for the old man at the old peoples home. what was left of him was happy to see me. most of him has withered away, thru a combo of old age, alzheimers and now cancer and he resembled a POW more than anything. after having the same conversation 5 times, i left before i started to cry like a big woman. just no way to live out your days, no dignity really in having to be dressed, cleaned and fed by someone.
met up with uncle and more family, had a some dim sum, buggered off into Kowloon to do some shopping.
pretty much did the dim sum/shopping/walking stuff for most of the week, loads of places to visit but wasnt really in the mood to go to many. only diff was on weds when i crossed into the mainland to go visit a chinese spa in Shenzhen...
was a bit dubious at 1st as to what was to happen. but basically having a 1hr foot massage and then a 2hr body massage all for the princely sum of HK$88 (approx £5), was well worth it, had my dodgy back worked on and my feet didnt feel so heavy afterwards.
went to the "shopping" centre afterwards... jesus, fake goods are one thing... but the place was full of bad fake stuff... the mainland chinese are vvvv different to the HK people... a lot more ruder and a lot more desperate for your attention.
experience wasnt one id like to repeat. place kinda reminded me of Tijanna on the US/Mexico border...
went back to the spa on friday, had my shins looked at, and ended up having a ginger smeared on my legs and wrapped in hot towels for an hour... had the same treatment to my back... felt funking great afterwards, esp my feet, which didnt feel heavy or hot like they have done for the past 10years.
SAT: said what will basically be the last time i see the old man alive. had more dim sum, got driven to the airport, and finally got back to UK 2hrs late, due to shambles at Doha Airport.... flight back wasnt the best (cabin was very dry). but cant fault the service onboard.
got home, emptied suitcase, went to bed.
now back at work and having delayed jetlag...
