Buy one of the brand new (came out today!) MacBooks? I've already decided my next computer is a Mac (bit of an apple head here   ) but all I need now is convincing that I can afford £750

ooh, it's so beautiful. I'd probably get the white one as it's cheaper.

Nick,

Maybe Mark Sun or Chewie can explain better due my lack of tech english but this new powerbooks have the new intel chip and there's lots of :?: :?: :?: about this change, if that will work and how programs are going to run with the intel chip. Experts advice is get one of the old ones, now are cheaper and for years the powerbook G4 was impossible to improve.

Anyhow, apple rules, I have myself a powerbook G4 (that was my engagement present8) ) and NEVER NEVER NEVER had a problem with it or running any of the programs, even tho iphoto with a photolibrary of 10.000 files ;)

Yeah the intel will be fine for me - I won't be using all the photoshop software and stuff that hasn't been optimised for it yet, I'll just be using iLife, iWork and internet etc

My current computer is basically dead - laptop where the screen and keyboard are broken and it's run out of space.

If you don't need the intel thing, then I would check prices of old ones cos they are cheaper and you can get a titanium for a bit more than an ibook ;)

I'd get the new one! I hate the fact that my lovely powerbook has been updated.

Mac never get anything wrong!...and it's an investment for the next 5-6 years so don't feel bad about parting with the cash. ;)

don't tempt me to spend more money!!!

I want the intel because they can now run windows (which might come in useful eventually) and it's rumoured that in the next operating system, Leopard, you'll just be able to run windows programs with no problem (without even having to have a copy of Windows XP) at native speeds.

which means it will be no problem to add on a few years to my credit card to pay it off

Why do you want windows in a mac? :?

and

What windows programs give you problems and what copy of windows xp are you talking about? :?

I use MIcrosoft Office with no problem in my powerbook, I create a file at work in my pc and then I can keep working on this file from home in my mac, so unless you are talking about acces or any data base you are done

I probably won't be using any windows programs but it's nice to have the possibility you know?

because they work, they're beautiful, the GUI is perfect & I only want to do stuff like photos, internet, music etc which they're perfect for. And I don't like microsoft

Then you don't need windows

OK pros and cons

Pros:
- Yes you can dual boot using BootCamp which means if you have to run something in XP you can - a lot of the software updates lag behind on Mac, so you can create a small partition and use XP in emergencies
- Lovely looking machines and with intel chips they actually compete well with PCnotebooks.
- They're loads faster than the old iBooks/Powerbooks

Cons:
- The Macbook Pros have been having serious overheating problems - as any first generation design, there will be problems and it's generally good practice to wait until the 2nd generation as most of these problems get ironed out

BUT I WANT ONE NOW *throws toys out of pram*

I really should just wait a little bit and save up a bit more - I'm being a bit naughty. But I REALLY really REALLY want one. The macbook though should have taken lessons from the macbookpro line surely on overheating.

Hello Nick! Hope you're well dude, definitely need to meet up for some daylight shenanigans soon ;) Are you going to that new Garden Party thing?

Yeah, think I'll come down for that, sounds like it'll be good. Still need to do my first secret sundaze though 8O

Anyway, nothing doing until payday :x   which luckily is in only 8 days :D
