so finally off to ibiza for my first time after years of talking about it...the week went like this...(apologies in advance, if this is too long:p

saturday 8th sept: zoo project, 3:30am rise, for taxi at 5 to get to glasgow airport to get the 7:30am flight out. was meeting 4 people at the airport, would be 7 of us in total as my cousin & her boyfriend were already in ibiza and we'd be joining up with them / staying in same hotel for the last week of their 2 week break.

was first time meeting one of the guys at the airport, and it turns out him & another guy had just stayed up from friday night partying, would turn out to be an interesting group of people, bit of variation in the music tastes, clubbing experience, partying levels (was my first time on holiday with this group, only really been out clubbing in glasgow / rockness festival with 3 of them before, so not sure the others knew what they were letting themselves in for clubbing wise, or were that familiar with the type of music (age range was 25 -34, 3 ibiza veterans, and 4 newbies.

flight was pretty ueventful, just lot of chat / catching up with people i'd not seen for a wee while, and talk of what all of us fancied doing once we got to ibiza (prior to going i'd emailed everyone a list of all the club nights , and the main parties i was keen to attend, so i was working off that as a guideline really...i kinda knew this list was a bit too much for some of the others , but my phrase & motto before i went, and during the week was i was there just for the week and i was keen to 'max it out':p my cousin is a huge lover of the island, worked out in ibiza for several summers as a rep so knows the place really well, so she was keen for me to sample more than just the clubs so she was on at me to do a few of the other things that the island has to offer in order for me to gain 'ibiza experience' points:lol:

flight arrived on time and me & the 2 people i was sharing a room with (my cousin & his mate A) just jumped a taxi to the hotel (azuline pacific in san antonio), was about 25 euro taxi, the other 2 had paid for the bus transfer so we saw them later (much later as it turned out as they wre nearly 2hrs longer getting to the hotel than us...they wern't happy bunnies at this...(i'd skip the bus transfer option as a general rule...)

prior to going i'd left the hotel booking to my male cousin to book, he was keen to get us booked into same place as his sister & her boyfriend, and from their experience on the island, the pacific was getting good reviews...turned out the hotel was excellent, very handy for everything in san antonio, and well placed to get taxi-s to/from PDB / the clubs...handy for the bus station <5mins away, .hotel had a decent pool , sun bathing area, and all in, if i were to stay in san antonio again, wouldn't be adverse to staying there again....room was decent size, no complaints about that,

good catch up with my cousin & her boyfriend...was really good to see them, we got checked in, suitcases unpacked, and ourselves organised then off for a wee wander down to the west end, spot of lunch, get supplies sorted and couple people wanted to see the scotland football game (not me i hasten to add, but heh ho...)..wanderered about and took in the west end during the day..initial verdict that it was ok, reminded me of just usual high concentrated tourist places in various spanish cities i';d been too previously, but with dance music blaring out from every bar/ eating place all along...so as long as the music is going, its ok for me (even if the west end music was a bit too commercial for my tasttes)...but anyway) ended up in the Highlander to watch the football, bite to eat and disucss the plans for the rest of the night...(at this point my cousin had returned with our disco supplies...we just got yellow smilleys each time...to be honest i didnt think they were too great, but the seller ws known personally to my cousin so we knew the stuff was legit, they did work, and for those not really used to taking pills they thought they wre pretty strong ...for me i was taking quite a few and even then not up to the levels of the stuff i'm used too...but after a certain amaount they did kick in a bit...**** it, i was in ibiza, in the clubs so was pretty buzzin most of the time anyway:)

so talked turned to the zoo project and whether we were all still for going, now prior to flying out had been some 2nd thoughts about whether we would enjoy it, whether the young kids in face paint would get on the nerves..but since we'd paid the extra to get the early flight to ibiza, i was keen that we go ahead with the original plan and for all 7 of us to go & mke the most of the saturday, so off we went to get tickets, ended up buying them from an italian guy who had his own ticket place just up from the ushuaia shop (sadly cant remember his name now!, and was talking to him for ages over the course of the week, was also in his clothes shop which is just down from the Curry Club, the guy was pretty sound and we were getting a good deal on the tickets since we kept buying from him and 7 at a time (usually)

back to hotel to get changed then couple of taxi's flagged down and off we went,...driving up to the zoo project entrance it did have the feel of entering a private road to some country estate /large private house..it does kind of stand out on that alone from going to another club...its an event/experience and we were all in good spirits from the get go.. had to wait about 10mins in the q (think it was around 730ish we got there, so we had to pay the extra 10euros to get in..think we paid 34 euros for the tickets, so 44 all in with a drink.

(after a very very strict search to get in
eek.gif
...be very careful with that...i got a bit lucky on that front i have to say...:spank:) we were right into the spirit of things right away, initially just enjoying the main dance bit, group happy to have a wee drink/smoke by the pool, people watch a bit , hats off to some of the costumes / face paint designs..and take in the stilt walkers and assorted 'animal' dancers/characters that were mignling about the crowd, seen a couple people dive in the pool...then get thrown out before finally going round to the seal pit area, managed to get a really good space for us all near the back, and basically that was us settled and danced our assess off til the place shut, music was just the deep house/house sound i expected , margaret dygas was on last and she was excellent...was fantastic first night..welcome to biza!..did notice that the last couple hours the crowd did seem to thin out a bit , a lot of the younger / face painted crowd had left ..facebook pictures had been captured and they were off to the next thing perhaps? or am i being too cynical:lol:...

asnyway was a good vibe to the place, we were all loving it will have to say one of our group had never taken a pill in his life, so was quite something to see his reaction (he's around 30yrs old) as he came up, for that to be in the seal pit area at Zoo Project on his first trip to Ibiza!!..quite something to say that......a bit different from my first time taking a pill 20yrs ago in a house party in a council flat in Ayrshire in scotland:)lol

so music finished and we made our way out, jumped on to the free buses back into san anotnio, at this point was a bit of discussion about where we were going to go, what we wanted to do...personally i was up for more clubbing (it was only just after midnight of course), but a few in the group were feeling it (early start & flight out from glasgow) and were perhaps intrigued by the sound of the west end on a saturday (in fairness, the saturday night club lineups are pretty poor in Ibiza i'd say) so the west end won, ended up doing a tour of some bars, meeting a few people my cousin knew that still were working in biiza from her time doing the same, and the drinks were flowing, couple of the guys called it a night and they went back, we then ended up in Hush and proceeded to dance about to the house classics that was getting played til stupid oclock...the others were now feeling the pace so they wanted to head up the road..now after i'd gained some 'ibiza experience points' by doing the ibiza west end i was happy enough to go along with that..so off we set, only to run into people my cousins knew from scotland, ended up chatting with them for ages (at this point (A) needed the toilet so he set off for the hotel...now he was looking a bit unsteady, but he assured me he was ok, and the hotel wasn't that far....
anyway the chat & time went on, the other crowd had been in Eden, and it seems like it had been a good night in there...(which made me feel like we'd missed out!..alas, but i'd got my west end ibiza experience points though:)...anyway an hour+ passes as the chat flows, and we all decide to say goodnight and make for the hotel....get to the reception desk...our room key is still there...er, what has happned to our mate?...phone him up...he's in the hotel so he says....fair enough...just not in our hotel.....so we had to go set off to get him...being a bit wasted he'd got lost and ended up in a diffrent hotel, and for the last hour the manager of the other hotel had been showing him around the floors (marco polo) trying to jog his memory as he believed our mate had just got the hotel room number wrong:p...the notion our mate could've just got any random key and walked into someone's room none the wiser , fell asleep til the morning did have us amused...3 bears, whose been sleeping in my bed? scenario being played out , and were just in biza a day!...anyway mate is rescued from the other hotel and so endeth the first night in biza...zoo project was excellent, music was fantastic and so far ibiza is amazing...8)

sunday.....we love@ space...

I've never been to the Zoo Project but was shocked to hear that they carried out a thorough search, that's unusual in Ibiza!. Sounds like a very young crowd too. I was told that it was quite difficult getting taxi's or buses away from the place. Hush is probably my favourite West End Bar. Keep the review coming!

was only time we had any real delay in getting taxi's was travelling to zoo project as everyone seemed to be heading there from san antonio..we perhass just got lucky with the bus being there as we came out to take us back into San An (we mustve been one of the last people to leave the place, and do remember us having to squeeze onto the bus, and also looking about for one of our gang who seemed to have gone AWOL...turned out he was safe and well chatting to a couple ladies at the back of the bus:p

crowd was young, but to be honest not over whelmingly so as i had imagined (perhaps with it being september...as i say, as the night wore on, was just the older music heads really i'd say ...but overall, i've came back singing the priases of the zoo project to everyone...i'd definitely go back to the place and have it on a must do for the saturday.

as for the search...yeah very surprised!...a definite ball grabbing session:eek:..stick to keeping it in shoes/trainers...my female cousin got quite a thorough search as well...boob patted down ....
maybe we were just unlucky with the searches...or they knew our type too well!:spank:..after that did get a bit paranoid about the searches, so was xtra careful...so maybe good not to be too complacent in such matters is the lesson learned.

kingfisher, i see your from liverpool, was a crowd of scousers near us at the back fo the seal pit area, they kept adding their own words to the songs, was quite weird, something about the mersey...bit bizarre, i did ask them for the words, but i think they thought i was taking the piss a bit:)lol

It does pay to be careful. Although the atmosphere might seem more carefree, if cops/bouncers want to search you in Spain, they can go a lot more intimate than in the UK (to the extent that no place on you is 'safe'). Personally, I'd just stick to the San Mig. ;)

Probably just off their trollies!

Well done for getting your review started. My head hasn't been capable yet and I don't reckon I'll remember enough to get one done tbh (will try at some point though). I do however know that the weather was sunny for all of your stay :)

 i do keep meaning to get the other days filled in!!..some of the details / order of things is a bit hard to piece together , will need to collaborate with my crew to get the facts right:p

yeah weather was decent, although i was cold (as i predicted prior to going!) a couple of the nights.....also seem to have came back paler than when i left scotland...which probably didnt have much to do with the weather right enough:p...very weird photo of me on the last night next to my cousin...the colour/tan contrast is quite frightening:lol:

I've given up trying to piece it all together. On the upside I came back with my best tan ever. Actually slept at some point in every 24 hour period but mainly in the evening before going out :)

sunday 9th September: we love@space.

so after a relatively early night we all seemd to be up & feeling ok, so the 7 of us set off for a group breakfast / brunch (was to be the first and only time this happened:lol:)..the rest had claimed their sun loungers by the hotel pool already so everything was set for some time relaxng after we got back...so off we popped to the west end for something to eat, just ended up at one of the larger restauraunts (cant mind the name)..waitress was from aberdeen, so a bit of 'scottish' chat with her, breakfast was decent, just had a bit of chat/ morning after review amongst ourselves of the zoo project..all agreed fantastic night.couple people set of to buy some smoke from some contact, rest of us back to hotel/pool, due to thinking my bag was going to be over my luggage allowance i'd not brought a towel so my ibiza souvenir was duly purchased (and strangely, bar 5 fans i bought during the course of the weeks in the clubs, the only thing i came back with was a towel:lol:

so sun lounger /pool time...(also ended up the only time i bothered getting in the pool or making the sun loungers the whole holiday), bit of lazing about/swimming, chat with other people staying in the hotel..seemingly a guy had feel out his room window a night previous after too much Ket:eek:...was lucky he only split his head open when he hit the ground (after bouncing off the canopy area by the pool!!!..boy was lucky...not so lucky to promptly being kicked out the hotel though after he'd got back from hospital:lol:

decision was made to get ready, we'd head for dinner & then go catch a sunset (yet again me getting some ibiza experience points:p) & get our Space tickets on the way back (our italian ticket seller was keeping our tickets for us)...again another random place for dinner in the west end, dinner was average at best, but we were in hurry to get to mambo's to see this sunset, so off we set, carry out of course purchased en route...to be fair, probably the worst night we picked from our time there to go see the sunset as it was a bit cloudy, but even for a a cynical old bastard like myself it was nice, we were all there together, taking it easy,..was a cool moment

music i have to say that was coming from mambo's was pretty dire, dunno what was happenign with that..they did play the Doors at one point though that did interest me....little touch of Britain restored by a group of geordies in front of us on the rocks next to mambos, this huge big guy had a tattoo on his leg of a guy in a newcastle football shirt pissing on a sunderland top:oops::lol:...much hilarity.

back to the hotel, changed etc, Space tickets purchased, got them for 32 euros but had to be in by 11, couple of taxi's and en route to space8)...

it should be noted, I generally get a bit impatient and like to make the most of dancing time available, and as I don't don't drink it doesn't interest me having one more drink for the road/for the taxi etc, so was kinda sweating we were going to miss the 11pm cutoff for these tickets, ended up we were in the q with about <10mins to go, and were inside in no time...(no need to worry:)lol

Went in, but were waiting for our other lot whose taxi seemed to be taking a bit longer, so were just in the main entrance area, had a wee look at the club shop until they got in, once we were all in, round to the sunset terrace area to catch a bit of Andy George & jaymo.

always did like their show on radio 1, and their set was pretty enjoyable, good starter for our night in the club, went up to the premier etage, check out that area, alfredo was on...was just house (ibiza) classics he seemed to be playing, something really nice about (bearing in mind it was my first time in Space / In ibiza) hearing Stardust - music sounds better with you,...(and I always love the big vocal house tunes)..sadly was a bit spoiled by Alfredo's god awful mixing inbetween the tracks...car crash mixing, now I've never dj'ed, but I reckoned I could still have made a more seamless transition than what he seemed to be doing...painful, so back downstairs, tour of the rest of the club.

one of the boys was 'feeling it' a bit too much at this point so went for a seat, the rest were happy enough to wait for A skills, whilst I did a tour of the other rooms, switching back n forth between , firstly midland in the discoteca, catz n' dogz in the terrace...enjoyable sets, particularly Midland...Space was proving to be very hot, so purchased a fan, now this would usually have led to much laughter at my expense, but I couldn't care less:)lol, although the fan may have ended up becoming a part of my 'dancing routine' a bit too much, but nevermind:).

zabiela came on, and didn't disappoint, I thought he was excellent, although if im being honest, I don't think his set really worked for the big room, room definitely wasn't that busy, and don't think he was connecting, or his tune selection wasn't, with people who may not know of his type of music and were just in the club to check out Space...the rest of my crowd certainly weren't bothered with what he was playing...bottom line, unless your right into electronic dance music, not sure zabiela is the name that's going to sell you a load of tickets...next year for example, I can defintiely see Eats Everything being the main guy for Space on a Sunday instead, as his set later on was tremendous.

I'm not a huge fan of claude von stoke, but caught the last hour or so of him, by this point my crowd were on way back to the hotel, so was talking away to a group from manchester, spurred on by one of them desperate to get a shot of my Space Fan....its weird how folk baulk at the notion of paying for their own fan but will be at the bar buying drink constantly at the same time....anyway, eats everything came on & had the place pretty much going crazy until the lights came on...adam f circles - rework, au seve, duke dumont - the giver, light came on about 7, but he played on about another 15mins...so time to exit the building and get back to hotel...at this point I realised the toilets were now closed in Space (not pleased to discover this....)

anyway out into the daylight, so I've missed the disco bus back to san an, get talking to a german guy & a local, and get pointed in direction of a bus stop back into ibiza town from where I can then get bus back to san an (I do have this notion of usually getting the bus home, I do it in glasgow all the time) so bus in to ibiza town, then back to san an...i may have been looking a bit 'fragile' on the bus....as I said our hotel was only 5mins from San An bus station so no probs, should've maybe swung past the breakfast bar in the hotel , but wasn't feelign hungry (as it was, for some reason we hadn't checked in properly/didn't have our meal cards so I couldn' have got the breakfast anyway (well without paying for it)...so up to room, tried not to wake the other 2, and bit of sleep...might've been 9ish I think

Verdict: Excellent second day: sunset ibiza points gained:D, and finally been into Space...a tremendous club, i can see why it gets the awards...it would make my top 10 clubs i've been in, but in truth its not a patch on berghain/panorama bar...and i'd list it behind DC10 also....(I do have the notion i've really missed the boat on Space though, that its harsh to judge the place on what it gives now, compared to say back in the 90's when i first heard its name....a visit to the opening or closings would probably give me a better taste of what the club/experience was like in there (or what it could be like)...

and speaking of DC10....

Monday: Circo Loco @ DC10 then Cocoon @ Amnesia
