Sept 22nd - Sept 29th
Wednesday 22nd
Flight was supposed to fly out at 9:30ish, but the best start possible 1h 30m delay! (Although it did mean getting the see the Rangers CIS cup game in the bar!). Boarded plane and due to someone in the ground crew not being able to count bags - a further delay. That said given that we got the apts at 2/3am it didn't mean missing out on sunshine.
This holiday was mainly about relaxing, getting away from the Glasgow weather and generally just getting chilled out. So lying by the pool was the order of every day. Luckily the Xaloc apts have a large pool and its relatively quiet so got plenty of sleep in the sun and some nice dips in the pool.
NIGHTIMES
Thursday 23rd
dinner - Just a local place that does a lovely basic chicken in pepper sauce (nothing too adventurous given that we are clubbing tonight)
club - after a couple of drinks in the room we got the bus over to Ibiza Town and then a short taxi ride to Es Vive to meet up with Tom & Sarah. Got to meet some lovely new people too, forgive me for forgetting names, including Becki & Jon and Stephen. A nice wee drink on the decking at Es Vive (Although i cannot understand why we had to move inside, it wasn't even 12 and we weren't being particularly loud!)
On to Pacha for Renaissance. Due to a very gracious connection in the dj/publishining world we had guest list places. Given that we got there very early we had no problems getting in that queue (for a change) but the travelling (and the flowing booze) caught up with us and we didn't last long - nice set by Angel Linde tho (i think it was Angel Linde??!?!?)
Friday 24th
dinner - Savannah.
we ate twice last year in the fortnight due to being extremely impressed with Savannahs menu. This year was to be a disappointment.
We waited to be given the green light for a table (5 reserved ones - not good business sense) but we had arrived at the close of sunset (i know, not good timing) and therefore struggled to get a seat.
Tried Mambo but it is even harder to get a table at so back to Savannah (choosing to ignore the previously immensely rude waiter). A very poor menu greeted us this time and when the food eventually came, v small portions compared to last year. If we return to Ibiza next year - Savannah is definitely not on the menu!
Saturday 25th
dinner - Banyan Palace
after some comedy attempts at finding it (man no ask directions!) settled into some lush surroundings and found the best meal of the holiday. Expensive but tasty and plenty of food in a portion. Lots of lovely nice touches added to the experience. (Including a free afterdinner liquer)
I couldn't recommend Banyan Palace enough - you definitely should seek this out next year!
Sunday 26th
dinner - Pinochos (Ibiza Town)
one from my childhood trips to Ibiza. definitely the best pizza i have had in Ibiza and good value too.
club - We Love...Space (closing)
once again we had guest list places but the rumours around the island of a live PA by Madonna had taken hold and the queue was very long. the queue was pathetically run and Space really should get more security at the guest list queue. if it wasn't people being in the wrong queue and therefore wasting time while they asked for a fifth check of the list - it was the people skipping the queue.
Worst offenders seemed to be the Italians (judging by the passports they used for idenitification.) Really ignorant pushing and shoving when most in there shouldn't have been there!!!!
Eventually got the the front and the instructions of **Take Scottish Shortbread, White puddings and say the words "I Like To Eat Bread"*** worked a treat (many thanks to Gerod on the queue for his help)
Wandered the terrace for a bit trying to find a wee spot for a dance and eventually settled on right in front of the dj booth. Groove Armada were good, getting the crowd bouncing around (can remember Strings of Life and Superstylin' - which got played twice)
The main event - Steve Lawler. Immediately slowly the pace with "Can U Feel It" he started with a very rockin' house set. Yes, Sweet Dreams was played but i liked it and the crowd loved it. Closed with the obligatory Bombdogs and the set just rushed in. Strange tho - the chant "1 more tune" usually works in Trash @ Glasgow!!
Monday 27th
dinner - Jackie Browns
file this under food was ok but nothing spectacular. Good value tho'
preclub - Mambo
having planned just the 2 club nights we settled for catching some of Roger Sanchez at Mambo. Excellent set with cracking tunes and his own podium dancers too!
Tuesday 28th
dinner - Itaca
passed on Bay Bar (looked a very ordinary menu) and given how hungry we were, just ventured into Itaca.
both of us had Tex-Mex which was very yummy and very reasonable too.
Wednesday 29th
dinner - Kasbah
on Tom & Sarahs recommendation we tried Mr Jules' diner and despite the fish being unavaliable the meals were lovely (if a little overpriced for what we were offered - a bit like the Judge's dj-ing?). Eating while the sun went down was a lovely touch too.
Headed home (naturally delayed a little) and had the misfortune of landing at the exact time as a jet full of Celtic fans (seemingly all in replica kits) landed. Hence the 15m journey home had the added bonus of an hour in the taxi queue.
All in all a very good holiday. Relaxation, hot but not too hot, cool tunes, great clubs and (some) good food. Also got to meet a couple of old friends and some new ones too!!!
