Scooter Hire - No driving license

Is there anyway I can hire a 50cc scooter, I'm 26 but I dont have a driving license though. Are there any rental places that arnt strict on this policy for that kind of bike?

I'm pretty sure you need at least a provisional driving license and you'll be fine.

you need a full license.

i don't think any hire company would risk a hefty fine by providing a scooter to someone not entitiled to drive it. the guardia are constantly checking scooter drivers' papers at check points they set up all over the island

If you have car driving permit you can drive a 50cc without problem.
If you don't have any driving permit you need a speciall permit that only allows you to drive a small motorbike.
No one will rent a motorbike without the permits.

It was when i was staying in the ponienta, we asked about the scooters for rent in the reception area, we told them we had no licence, they made a phone call and an english woman came and picked us up in a mini bus and drove us to San An Bay down a residential street of the main road and rented us all scooters. all she wanted to see was our passports.

We did know at the time that it was illegal what she was doing

we all learnt our lesson that day. I was that nervous i was very sensible and gained confidance quite quickly but 2 of my friends fell of and one ended up with cracked ribs.

Dont get me wrong im not in any way boasting that we all got them without a licence and looking back it was just stupid, But now im older and wiser and learnt my lesson when it comes to scooters on holiday.

I would never recomend them to anyone

A one day lesson it's not enough, trust me. I've been driving a motorbike for the last six years and I spent about 20 hours training in desert streets. A motorbike it's not a bike, obvious but most people forget it.

we never even got a lesson. it was as basic as pull this to go forwards here is your break drive on the right hand side of the road. ans that was it

it was like they were telling us how to drive a go - kart

I am actually talking about a scooter here (50cc), not a motorbike. But getting a scooter/bike without any experience is definitely not the best idea, especially in a foreign country like Ibiza. Having said that I think this kind of applies even for people who have a full license but have never been on a scooter/bike.

I may or may not want to hire a scooter when I'm in Ibiza, based on how I feel about the state of the roads and the people driving on them.

it was really good actually, we had to leave £100 deposite but we got it back if the bikes came back un harmed. The scooters were in good condition worked fine.

2 of my mates fell of theres one quite badly, Both the scooters needed respraying and one needed a new part on the front. the wonam only took £10 out of the deposite for each bike. then she drove us back to the hotel.

As I said, you can't drive a 50cc without driving permit or special license.
