San Diego clubs?

I'm going to be in San Diego next weekend Thursday thru Sunday. Anyone know much about the clubs there? I hear the only superclub is On Broadway, but from their website all I could figure out is that they have some international DJs in on Fridays, found their dress code, and not much more. Anyone know about the place or anywhere else good in SD?

Hey Patrick!

Might I be the first native to welcome you to San Diego :) What brings you here, business or pleasure?

Yes, my favorite club has to be On Broadway. GORGEOUS venue, 5 rooms of dancing, very pretty people. It draws every name from Paul van Dyk to Nic Fanciulli. Unfortunately, their website SUCKS! I go through the promoters to find out whats the haps. Not sure who is spinning next weekend. Their resident DJ on Saturday nights, DJ Pauli P, is one of my friends and a fantastic DJ. He spins great proggy/funky house.

Aubergine has a good night on Saturdays. Residents also usually very good, but not always (my favorite is Jon Sautter). Expect a huge crowd there, so go early. Decos is pretty cool Saturday nights too, but the music is OK. There are a couple new clubs, Stingaree and Belo, that I have yet to experience. I heard Stingaree is very cool, but they don't play electronic music. Belo sounds awesome, some DJ friends of mine have spun there and said it rocked. I think I may go there next weekend.

On a negative note: Stay away from Sidebar and E Street Alley. Sidebar is the so-called "trendy" bar of downtown SD, but it is way too packed all the time and loaded with a$$holes. The nearby Visions is a great little classy place, and that would be your better bet in that part of town. Its across the street from Sidebar.

I live in Pacific Beach, which is a little ocean town about 10 minutes from downtown SD. Its loaded with college kids and a bunch of fun, laid back bars. Let me know if you want to know more. This synopsis was most brief, as I am expecting company in an hour and I need to get ready now.

Have fun in my beautiful city!!!

-xoxo PG :p

OH one more thing...

Onyx room is a hot little club... I have been there to see Julius Papp, Kaskade, Marques Wyatt, and many more. LagunaBeachCA is also a resident of San Diego, so he will probably have a few suggestions to offer.

Alex Peace will be playing at Onyx Room (http://www.onyxroom.com) in Downtown SD. His style is defined as hard house; not my cup of tea, but you might like it. Depending on the night the crowd can be pretty neat.

Red C Lounge is on the same street. There you get some real house heads. The Siesta boys are playing on Saturday night so it should be a good night.

Have Fun

Cool, thanks for the suggestions, Pachagirl and Laguna. Fortunately my trip is entirely for pleasure. I felt like getting away for a few days and thought, I've never been to southern CA. That's just not right. What a great excuse to burn some air miles. :D

How are the door policies? I like to know ahead of time if there's a chance of getting turned away.

I'll probably skip the hard house. I'm more into progressive and melodic sounds like Tiesto, Armin van Buuren, and George Acosta. Though I have a couple house/trance CDs from a few years ago by St. John that I really like. He's from San Diego if I remember right.

Hi everyone!

I gonna live for 3 months in San Diego and it seems that I have the same taste in music as Patrick... anyone has some other cool recommandations..?

what about prices? door policies? what's the closing hours? etc...

thanks

Phoenix:

I am a bit tied up right now. I will send you a detailed response over the weekend.

As promised here is the low down on the SD scene.

Wednesday Night: Bar Dynamite is a pretty good place to go. The night has been going on for the past 7 years, and the hosts have done a pretty good job. Free cover always and $5 beer.

Kava Lounge: This place is near the airport and time and again there would be some pretty good talents coming over there time and again. Depending on who is coming and who is hosting the event the cover charges can range between $19 and $15.

Friday and Saturday Nights: Red C Loungeis located in downtown. Red C has a pretty cool vibe.

I would personally stay out of any of the downtown places like On Broadway, Belo, 4th and B, Aubergine, etc. Cover will be $20+, drinks are pricey and most importantly, even if good DJs come to the places mentioned above they suck. The crowd is what one of my friends calls “Shiny Shirts and Stripper Hoes”. Most are there just to look good and play grab-ass.

However, for the music tastes that you have alluded to in your post; unfortunately the downtown places mentioned above are the only option.

For most of the Tiesto type stuff the event host is Giant (http://www.myspace.com/djidol).

Closing Time: 02:00.
Last Call for drinks: 01:30

If you really want to get the real deal you will have to go to LA. I am not talking about just any place in LA.

Keep the following My Space pages marked.

Fresco Gear: http://www.myspace.com/frescogearla

SubLevel: http://www.myspace.com/undergrounddivision

Sarcastic Disco: http://www.myspace.com/harveysarcasticdisco

All the underground parties thrown by the above-mentioned organizers start at 22:00 and end at about 06:00. The locations are not disclosed till 21:00 on the night if the event. Dress Code: Anything goes.
