San Antonio Bay May 2007

Hi, I'm new to this forum and I have joined because I wish to return to Ibiza after not having been there for 4 years (it will be 5 by the time my planned trip comes around).

Decided to stay in San Antonio Bay as I have only ever stayed in San Antonio Town during previous visits and I would like somewhere quieter and safer (Sol Post Apartments)

A few things I would like to know from other members are

1. Is there now a ban on smoking in public places (bars/restaurants etc)?

2. What it is best/safest way to get from the Town back to the Bay area?

3. In San Antonio Town, is there still a bar called The Mad Cow (Vaca Loca) with the mechanical bull? This was my favourite place from past trips.

Thanks to all who help:D

1 - there is no smoking ban

2 - we got taxis back every night. Only cost 6 euros from the west end to our hotel in the bay. It's a long walk otherwise.

3 - The bar you're talking about is still there, but the place is very run down, and it is absolutely dead!

Enjoy your trip mate

Great thanks. Will have to keep tabs on the smoking ban situation. Might change next year along with England. I live in Scotland and we already have it here.

Shame about the Mad Cow but I was there three times between 2000 and 2002 and in all that time the place hardly changed at all (apart from the bar staff). Probably still go there just for old times sake, also handy for Curry Club which I know from experience is a top Indian restaurant.

Thanks again

You can also get the boat taxi from the Bay to the Town, only costs a couple of Euros. but they stop at around midnight.

There are a couple of the bars in the Bay, with a spinning bull ride and one behind Bar M.

smoking

 at the mo , the rules about smoking in bars and restaurants.. depend on the size of the place...and there is confusion...because of difference in the laws from madrid and local balearic laws... i dont think they will bring a total ban in ..but you never know...

Good to get some local advice about things. Hey I'll be going even if there is a total smoking ban in place. Many bars have outside seating from what I remember so it won't really be a problem. Really looking forward to checking out places like Bar M and others long Sunset Strip.

In my three previous visits the only time I ventured away from the West End was when I had to go to the police station outside of town when my hotel room got raided. Hence the reason why I'm looking for a quieter area to stay this time.

I'm not really keen on all night clubbing at the likes of Eden, Es Paradis and the rest of them and I know the West End is not for the faint hearted but it's all harmless fun for the vast majority of the time.
