San An / San An Bay

Easy people, just a quick question!

Might not be able to afford a villa next summer and some of the party would prefer to stay in San An, done this a few times and can deal with it but wonderd what people's thoughts of San An Bay were?

Never stayed there before, how long does it take to get to San An, what decent bars and restaurants are there and does anyone recomend any decent hotels?

Cheers all.

I have stayed in the Bahia, Palmyral and Hawaii hotels all in San An Bay and I'd recommend them all - Bahia and Palmyra more so. However I am going back about years so things might have changed.

Depending whereabouts you are in San An Bay will depend on your time into San An, we were only about 10 mins walk from Bar M but you could be much futher round San An Bay but if so you can get a boat into the main town.

cheers Barbie, can alwayd rely on you for a quick reply!

Stayed in San An many moons ago and some of the party we're going with want to try it as a change to Bossa - not sure why!

Plus some of the others are more San An orientated, which we're hoping to change!

Still got fingers crossed for a cheap and cheefull villa tho!:)

I know people who have stayed round the bay. They thought it was a bit too far from the action. If you are too far round it can be a nightmare getting transport back. For me it has to be San An every time but I do have a good spot to stay. Try The Catalina above Savanna, good position and The Lounge open till 5 or 6 (underneath) which can really go off sometimes.

San An is really coming on now with places like Hush, Plastik, Savanna longe all playing good music with a more club type vibe.

EL CANO, Thanks, I've looked at the Catalina Apartments a few times but had bad reports about break ins etc, I take it you've had no trouble?

When do you usually go?

Thanks again!

I don't stay in the Catalina but next door above CDM. I know Catalina have had a few problems with break in's etc but it depends which room you get. The venerable rooms are at the back of the building at street level. It's usually because people don't shut balcony doors. The best room would be the one's at the front, great view, own drinks at sunset etc. I'm sure these are prob ably more money but defo worth it and you would'nt get break in probs as the balcony is 10 metres or more from the ground.

I go 2 or more times a year, i'm addicted to the sunset particularly in the comfort of your own appartment!

We stay in San An all the time & can recommend Hotel Gran Sol which is in a quiet location just up the road from Kanya or if you prefer self catering try Sol Bahia which is just past Calo des Moro beach - get an apartment with sea views if you want to enjoy the sun set.
We did stay in the Bay once & used to get the water taxi's across which is a good fun & pretty cheap. The novelty did wear off after a while though!

Do you know the name of this place or where I can get prices and availibilty?

Stayed in San An for 2 days this year for the first time since 2000, I like the idea of going back but can't hack a s**t hole! Would love a place where I can enjoy the sunset from my own balcony!

Thanks again!

We stayed in the Bellamar in San An Bay which is opposite the Hawaii Barbie said about. We really liked it, perfect location and right on the beach. The walk to San An was only about 10 mins.

Hi Ali
The appartment block is called......El Cano!
All the appartments are privately owned so you have to know someone. My family own a place on the 1st floor. We do rent it out but only to people we know. The place is undergoing a major refurb at the moment as it hasn't really been upgraded in 25 years.
It's all booked for 2008! All our regular renters want to see the refurb.
Maybe in the future? If you re in Ibiza when i'm there maybe I can meet you and show you the place for future reference. But i'm very particular who I rent to, especially with the refurb costing us a fortune.

Regards

John

Fair play, if I owned a place even some of my mates wouldn't be renting it out! Must make life super easy for you?

How long have you and your family been going? I've been going since 1996 and to have a place there would be a dream!

Will be there betweeen June 30th and July 11th, if you're there it would be good to meet up, even if it's just for a beer or a night out!

Thanks again for the info!

Hi Ali

My grandparents bought the place off plan 35 years ago before the Cafe Del Mar existed! It's a family heirloom! I've been going for years but never got the clubbing thing till 1999. I've got a family now and i'm getting older so don't go clubbing very often now. Still love it when I get the chance.

I've just booked flights for summer 25 july-8 aug so won't be there when you are. I will probably go a couple of times in May to check out the result of the refurb. I do hope it goes ok, it's always difficult when you can't keep an eye on things, but we have a great project manager. I'm really excited as we have gone to town with the fittings. It's always been my dream to turn the appartment into something really special and now it's become a reality. The position is great for sunset/evening but you always need a car for the day, there are some fab places in Ibiza and I still finds new things now after all these years.

Enjoy your stay in San An. The place is really improving. The new promenade seems to have made a real difference. There are some great eating places now.

Perhaps see you some time.

John

PS what part of the country do you live?

Wow, as family heirlooms go that's pretty good - I have a gold pocket watch!
Funnily enough my Mum and Dad's first holiday outside the UK was in Ibiza probably about the same time, they stayed in Playa D'en Bossa and there was just 1 road and 2 hotels!

I've missed 1 year since 1996 and like you I didn't really get clubbing till about 2000 even though I'd been to Manumission and Ministry of Sound in 97! We always stayed in San An in the early years and in 18-30 type hotels so my idea of the resort has always been with that in mind - but it still holds a real spell over for me, wherever I stay on the island I have to visit San An and not just for the sunset. Seeing it get redeveloped these last few years has been great and something Playa D'en Bossa should be thinking of as well.

Like you say, there's less to do in the day but it's easy enough to get about, if I don't stay in a villa this year I look forward to embrasing San An again as a base! You'll have to recomend some good places for food for me, I love Sa Capella (couldn't afford to eat there every night though!!!), Villa Mercedes, The Curry Club and David's Pizza has never let me down, nor has Tijuana! Any extra advise would be great, especially fish restaurants!

I really hope the refurb goes well, you'll have to let me see some pictures when it's finished!

I'm probably not far from yourself, I dwell in the fine county of Derbyshire! What about you?

Al

Sorry for delayed reply. I'm from Northampton.PM your email addy and i'll send you some piccys of the appartment when it's done.

John

When we stayed int he Bahia, we were literaly 5mins walk from the hotel to the 'egg', which is pretty much the start of some decent bars, bar M,Plastik,Itaca etc.

Bahia is a really nice hotel, would recommend it 10/10 to anyone, size, location,cleanliness;......
