Riviera Hotel - San An Bay

Hey guys,
Going to Ibiza for first time in August for 2 weeks into the bay, there will be 4 of us.

We have booked all inclusive at the Riviera Hotel. Has anyone been here before?

Seen the reviews online and they are pretty poor! Not expecting much for the price we paid, but was just interested to see what the atmosphere is like, i.e are there many 'young' people around, is it noisy and loud? Is it safe?

Also, in terms of the Bay itself, what is the nightlife like and is it easy/cheap to get to the Main town/west end?

Thanks! Can't wait

Hello!

I stayed at the Riviera last year, and was dreading it as my friend booked it because it was the cheapest at the time, and afterwards I was reading all the bad reviews as well. However...once we got there we were pleasntly suprised - the room was nice and spacious with a large bathroom, nice balcony, extra mirror in the room (very important for 2 girls) and it was and clean with cold air con. Our bathroom was obviously next to our neighbours so you could hear everything that was going on, but who cares, you wont see them again!

Anyway - it has 2 nice pools - get there early for sunbeds though!! Drinks are served in the usual small plastic cups - 2 at a time when we were there last summer. Food - we also went all inclusive as it was literally pounds more expensive than self catering - to be honest the food wasnt that great and we ate out quite a bit. breakfasts were ok - lots of bacon and eggs, bread, cold meats etc - the evenings were pretty bad - tasteless pasta, mystery fish, etc. we didnt even try the snacks, but thats mainly because in the daytime we were out. For the location and the hotel itself i would probably stay there again!

We saw some familes there but it was mainly groups of clubbers at the hotel - good crowd though - no trouble, no loud music in the day - it was pretty chilled actually.

Just in front of the riviera is the BN3 bar, which is where the disco bus stops and some preparties are held so djs sometimes put in an appearance. The bay itself is more family orientated i think but there is still a good selection of bars and restaurants to go at.

The water taxi is by far the best way to get across the bay to the west end - 5 minute walk away from the Riviera and about 2 euros each, or you can taxi it for about 7.

Hope this helps!

Thanks for the fast reply! Highly appreciated!

Yeah, it was the same with us when booking, It must have been an extra £20 to go all inclusive over self cat.

How much money did you take with you and spend? I'm thinking of £1500, do you think this would be enough?
Will probably end up getting food elsewhere quite a bit anyway, so what are the prices like? (As we paid so little for the hotel I don't mind eating out)
Sorry, forgot to ask in my original post!
Thanks again!

erm i think i took about £600 for 5 days and spent most of it, but i did get some club tickets out there, went on the bungee ball, and bought some expensive drinks on the sunset strip!

i think thats enough as long as you dont buy clubs tickets on the door, limit how much you are drinking in the clubs and use buses to get round rather than taxis! That doesnt go for Space though - if the 4 of you get a taxi there and get a reciept, the club will refund your fare back, its about 25 euros.

We were getting full english breakfasts, burgers and chips, toasties etc for around 6 euros in the bay. its pretty much the same where ever you go. theres alot of decent priced places in san an too - its really quite cheap to eat out!

Theres plenty of bars that do cheap drinks and shots up the west end and in the bay - and if you go to watch the sunset, grab a couple of bottles of san miguel or some make some vodka and orange from a local shop, rather than paying mambo or cafe del mar prices.

I stayed at the Riviera 3 or 4 years ago, we were supposed to be at a self catering place a little bit further up but it was full so they moved us to the Riviera.
It was ok to be honest, clean and quiet with quite a few families.
The **** thing was that we booked self catering for a fridge etc and ended up in a hotel without any of the self catering benefits.
We wrote a nasty letter of complaint but basically got a leeter back telling us to eff off!

Anyway, we got the boat across to San An most nights which was just a few euros.
We walked it once and it took the best part of 40 mins.

With regards to money I always work it out at £100 per day but could easily spend more and always run out!

A group of four of us have made a booking for a cheap all in 2 weeks in June for this hotel.
I will be happy if it is clean, safe, get a decent breakfast, a good night sleep (when needing to recharge) and a selection of drinkable drinks.
Does anyone know what drinks are offered?
Is Ron Blanco offered here? (balearic copy of bacardi)
Is the lager- Cruz campo, san miguel, amstel, Sagres or the like?

I would also be interested in finding out what drinks get served, and maybe prices, are cocktails sold? We have one male coming along (at least I think he is) who doesn't drink apart from cocktails... anyone able to help here?
Reading reviews, I think you can get a vodka and coke , and in terms of beer it's just a local brand. Might be wrong though.

i believe the lager is amstel, served in halves. they do have own brand spirits and mixers, not sure about the ron blanco but possibly if its a spanish brand? tea, coffee, pop, sangria on tap which is actually ok - cant be 100% sure about the cocktails but im sure i saw a sign close to the bar for the obligatory sex on the beach :?

Was meant to be staying in this hotel May-June last year, but morning of our flight got a call from the travel operators informing us we had been moved!! We weren't impressed.

Anyway, there was obviously a communication mix-up because our shuttle transfer from the airport took us there anyway. It did look pretty delapidated tbh. However, they were obviously in the process of maintenance works. We too read the (mostly) awful reviews online and were dreading staying there, but if it got refurbed, maybe it turned the corners.

Our replacement accomodation was at the San Remo. Not sure whether the facilities/service are comparable, but San Remo was pretty awful. Wasn't worth going "All Inclusive" - food was terrible and the drinks (served in plastic cups) were very stingey portions. They wouldn't even let you take drinks you'd previously ordered at the bar into the dining room (why - ?????)

I won't go into the issues we had with our room.

I hope you have a better experience with Riviera than we did with San Remo!

Oh god! That has put me off slightly. Have read reviews about break ins, bad food and what not, but to be honest as long as it has a bed, food and basic foods, and obviously nothing gets stolen. Everything is good :D
All in all it came to about £650 each, 2 weeks all inclusive, so what can you say for that price?

Just stumbled upon this...

I went in 05 and 06, and both times were brilliant, and I mean that, so much so that the second time we went, the bar man remembered us from the first time! - thats not to say we made a name for ourselves as such.

We just used to call off for one last drink after being out in the west end, and he would have a chat with us....

Service all round was good, pool was big, and plenty of loungers to go around, entertainment was cheerfull, if you like quizes, daft dancing and hypnotists then you will love it...

Its not the best hotel ive been in, bbut by no means the worst.. Friends of mine also stayed thier this year, and would echo my posts....

food was decent, but not amazing, and there was a 24 hour s/market oppisite

id give it a 7/10
