Ricardo Villalobos is a vital minimal techno/house dj/producer who's had established residencies and been delivering quality music since 1988. Though his productions are mostly based on house, they exhibit Villalobos 'innate understanding of the dynamics' of electronic music, "full of pauses, patience and white space... overlapping genres until only their outlines remain, blotting out all but the essence."

Villalobos has completed numerous remixes and original releases on German Labels Perlon and Playhouse as well as Sven Vath's Cocoon Recordings. In 2002, his first album 'Alcahofa' (Playhouse) contained the unforgettable tracks 'Easy Lee' and 'Dexter' and his most recent In the Mix: Taka Taka compilation on Cocoon was hailed as "a study of the percussive mastery that enables Villalobos to sway crowds until morning." It's an excellent mix, actually one of the most impressive and creative DJ mix compilations have heard last year.

Villalobos' Ibiza sets with Ritchie Hawtin last summer have become the talk of the town and their most recent after-party set at London Fabric made the night when the two played at Fabric's invite only after-party until 2pm the next day! Villalobos will be at Fabric again on February 28th with colleague Luciano.

Whoever said this is a bit strange: "full of pauses, patience and white space... overlapping genres until only their outlines remain, blotting out all but the essence."

Shocking!

villalobos is awesome!!!
and a very cool person as well... when I asked him in amnesia if he knew where the cocoon beach afterhour was, he immidiately told me.

still, I wouldn't say he plays techno... In germany, his style is called minimal house and he is regarded as a house dj.

He's not really a techno dj, nor new. Very under-rated though. Richie Hawtin claims he's one of the best djs around at the moment.

Was impressed with him at Cocoon in the housier room, but obviously wasn't there for house!

I shall be studying him more in depth at Pressure next month.
