Blow by blow account of my trip to Ibiza with Andrea (my lady) and my mate and his wife.
Friday May 21st
Landed at Ibiza Airport from Newcastle frothing at the mouth ready for the mayhem to begin, if a little pissed at the lack of sunshine. Jumped in a taxi to our apartments in Figuretas - on the way got a call from home to say the keys for our new house were ready on our return – WHOOO! – another thing to celebrate when I get a drink in my hand. Got to our apartments (sirenis jabeque – really nice) and our mate Micheal was waiting for us. Quickly got changed and headed straight to Mike’s bar in Figuretas – CUBE – and was told the initial plans for the evening. – first stop Dino’s for the Best Supper – where Mike’s mate Alexander was DJing.
However – things got a bit messy when a four hour Hiberas session left us all a bit worse for wear – ending in a venture to Es Paradis against my better judgement
– ( I knew it was pap – was told it was pap – and it was pap). But we were meeting up with some old friends inside. No Matter. I was in Ibiza now.
Saturday May 22nd
Woke up on the floor surrounded by rizlas and tobacco. And Andrea.
Can’t remember much of the day to be honest – (I know not very good as reviews go) but we did decide to take it easy and have a belter at Pacha on Monday for Cicaloco.
Went to Ibiza Town after a few drinks and had a lovely meal at La Marina just along from Mar E Sol and the Pacha shop on the marina. Fantastic food / fantastic atmosphere – great paella. Sue had stayed above the restaurant several years ago when it was a hostel and now it’s quite a funky little hotel as well. Ended the evening back at Figuretas having a smoke and drink, as the paella repeated itself more times than Hollyoaks on E4.
Sunday May 23rd
Went to Cube for Sunday dinner – very nice – Yorkshires and mint sauce – the works. Got ready for the evening where we were invited to Talamanca (sp) for a beach party. Afterwards ended up in a restaurant called “Gusto” - opposite El Divinos for a birthday party for some one I didn’t know but who was friendly enough.
Met this groovy lady called Maria who was well into her fifties and who had first came to Ibiza in the late 60’s as an Air Hostess. She was Swedish and went everywhere with her little dog called mini – including the restaurant table. I particulary liked her cos she thought my pumas were groovy – haha By now there was about ten of us and we walked around the Marina to Plaza du Parc (sp) to chill and people watch. After wards Mike showed us his apartment in the Market Square – the ones with the big green shutters – then we walked back along to Figuretas playing hurdles with the roadworks on the way. Funny site of the evening – three prostitutes standing opposite the hairdressers “Fannys” on the way back home.
Monday May 24th
Weather shite – so went for a walk around Dalt Villa.
Amazing place – sun started shining for the first time this holiday when we got to the top. I am determined to take a shopping trolley with me next time – what a ride that would be on the descent. Andrea was stopped two times by strangers saying hello, who mistook her for a dancer from Pacha. First time I though it was a cheeky chat up line – however the second time it was a bit weird. Well tonight at least pacha should be interesting.
Went to Khumaras for the sunset. Fcking hell the place is fantastic – Barbie and Puppylover were so right – no where else compares. It was a bit windy so we bought some blankets from the hippy stalls behind the tower and sat and had a smoke.
Very groovy. Go when you get there you will have to be dead not to enjoy. And no clapping seals at the sunset – although one hippy fella farted quite loudly.
The munchies and the cold drove us to food – ended up at Villa Mercedes. On the way there we passed through parts of Cala Bou where big crowds of ( obviously English) people were gathered round TVS screens and bars – we started wondering why? Was there a big sporting event / World News flash we should know about? No – it was fcking Coronation Street. My God how crap. This badly affects my post Khumaras hippy vibe, man. So I decide to go all capitalist and blow a load on a big meal.
Villa Mercedes- nice place. Crazy blonde woman was Maitre‘d or whatever. At one point she said “it’s like Fawlty towers in here” when we pointed out she’d charged us for the next tables meals as well as our own. Surprisingly, the food is quite basic – although it is good quality. The menu is small and not very exciting. All of the plates were different – which can be quite groovy in some places but here it just looked tatty. I ordered an amaretto afterwards expecting a little nipper – but they brought a huge brandy balloon full of it. Very nice. Don’t let my whinging about plates stop you – it’s a very nice place.
Taxi back to Figuretas to meet everyone – then onto Pacha for Circaloco on guestlist entry (second year running). Pacha was great – but not all the rooms were open. And it wasn’t mega busy. But I love Pacha and enjoyed a good groove for the first real time this holiday. Big shock – we spilt our mortgage priced vodka and cokes on the bar – and the barman replaced them for free!!!!!!
Tuesday May 25th
A missing day in my memory probably cos I woke up covered in rizlas again.
The evening went for a meal at an Indian restaurant called shanti shanki.
Quite a large group of us went – including an English bloke called Tim who owned a building company in Ibiza who was doing work on Dalt Villa – and his boyfriend Rupert. Nice meal very traditional Indian menu, the chef was actually from Dheli. Big cushions and bed type things everywhere. Got jumped by muggers / pickpockets type people along from Es Vive on the way home – these guys came up all friendly then got all heavy. But they got nowt as they were all midget sized. I also moonied a lot apparently on the way home. Big hangover.
Wednesday May 26th
Today we had hired a Sunseeker Yacht through a friend who charters private boat trips. We only had to pay for fuel. The plan was to go to Formentera and then go to see the sunset. It was Raining so we decided to cancel and hired a convertible landrover type car instead. At first we were really disappointed as we really fancied doing the posing on a yacht thing. But the jeep hire was the best thing we did all holiday. Six of us piled in and drove around for a bit then the rain cleared and the sun came out – we headed to San Miguel and went to this beautiful chapel at the top of this hill and took some photos. Lots of cats everywhere – which is good, I like cats.
Drove to Playa de San Vincent. What a beautiful place this is. Turquoise coloured sea in a small cove surrounded by lush green hills. Swam in the sea and sun bathed for a bit then drove back to figuretas. If you ever get the chance – go to San Vincent – amazing. Popped into The big GM cash and carry and bought some food for the bar then went to a tapas bar for lots of food and drinks. Big scary Dutchman called Michell owned the Tapas bar – he used to be the captain of the Bath rugby team. And he Kept feelin Andrea’s arse.
Thursday May 27th
Great day today. Went to Sa Trinxa and ate smoked and danced the (very hot) day away. Beach was busy and the tunes were heavenly. Swam in the sea after a smoke – don’t try this at home folks – (do it at the beach) – the gay blokes we were with decided to use the jetty as a catwalk and had the whole beach in fits of laughter.
As it was our last day I persuaded them to take us to Es Vedra before going to Mambos’ for a final sunset. So off we went in convoy to Es Vedra. Can’t really describe the view there. All the fantastic photos that I’ve seen on here which inspired my vist there do not do the place justice. It’s like something off jurassic park. Amazing. Sun was going down rapidly so literally raced the sun to get to Mambos for a sunset drink with all our classic tunes blasting out as we sped towards San An for our final sunset. Ended up sitting in a bar talking to Scary spice’s stunt double from Spice world – the lovely drag queen Carla. Surreal as it sounds.
Friday 28th.
Hot footed to Bora Bora for the opening after some last minute shopping in Ibiza Town (Nice Cushions). What can I say? I love Bora Bora – but just as it was starting to kick off I had to jump in a taxi to the airport. Gutted. Felt like I’d had a BJ only to be stopped halfway through. Got free upgrade to extra legroom on flight home from andrea’s former air hostess mates. Nice.
