Review 27 july - 6 aug

Just got back from Ibiza and i'm already missing the island. I don't have the time to write a complete review (with pictures and all..), so I will just review some highlights.

We rented a house near Sant Agusti. Same as last year. I definitely recommend when you go to Ibiza with 6+ persons to rent a house. It's not more expensive then a hotel, but you have lots more privacy and a private pool. Great to chill out.

We rented 3 cars at AugiraCrown. Worst hire company I've had in Ibiza so far (rented cars in Ibiza 5 times). 1 car broke down on the middle of the road. You had to start the car again and you could drive 10km and it would stop again. Called AugiraCrown and they said bring it to the airport tomorrow, because we don't have any cars right now. We felt unsafe, but we did. We got a new car and that one also broke down after 2 days on our driveway. We called AugiraCrown and they did not wanted to pick up the car. We had to call a tow truck ourself (luckily enough I speak Spanish) and bring it to the airport. At the airport they wanted to charge us again for the gas, at a ridiculous price. All cars were full of scratches and bumps. Next year we will hire again at Centauro or Atesa. In total, we lost a day by bringing back cars to the airport.

It felt like the beaches were busier then last year. Cala Comte was full of people. Cala d'hort was also very busy.

Then on the clubs: first we went to Kehakuma. We paid 25 euro here on Spotlight. It said we would have one free drink. The doorman at Space refused to give us a free drink voucher and when we asked him why not, he yelled: you want to go in or shall we refuse you entry? Very impolite, while we just asked a normal question. The day after, the Spotlight crew did a great job by fixing this problem! :) When we got in at 01:30am Space was already quite busy. Not too busy and we had enough space on the dancefloor. Great atmosphere and Tiefschwarz (terrace) was really good! SiS and 2000 and one also played quality music in the discoteca. Great line-up. The crowd was also really nice. Most of them enjoyed the music and were really just there to party. I really liked Kehakuma. The only thing I (still) hate is paying 10+ euro's a drink. As I said, Kehakuma was really good. Enough space to move and quality music.

The week after I went to Kehakuma again. This week I got in for free. There were definitely a lot more Italians (august). Nothing wrong with that of course, but it you had less space on the dancefloor and I just noticed it. Dennis Ferrer was playing and I didn't really like it. He played alot of his own tracks and his whole set was sort of 'an easy win' compared to the other dj's. I think the crowd was not there for the music as the week before. How I know that? Don't know, but it felt like that. In the discoteca there were some quality artists playing, but that was quite empty because of the headliners on the terrace. Still a quality night, but slightly less then the week before.

Pandemonium by Tania Vulcano 30/7 @DC10: We got in for free which was really nice. At first it was not very busy, but later on the place got just busy enough to fill the main room. Terrace was closed. The music was good and I also liked the atmosphere. The volume of the music in the main room in DC10 ridiculously loud. I like loud music in a club, but this ruins your ears. Good party, not too busy, nice music and fair drink prices (5e beer/water).

Circo Loco @DC10 2/8: We were there early and I would really recommend to go early. Nice vibe and still a bit of that daytime party feeling. The main room was empty until 22:00. After 22:00 it got busier really quick. After 23:00 there were just too many people inside. You couldn't walk and it was almost too crowded to dance. People bumping into each other. Even outside there were people everywhere. Far too busy if you ask me. The atmosphere got a bit less nice and I have seen some fights outside. I know that people take drugs on Ibiza and living in The Netherlands i'm used to seeing people take drugs, but here it was everywhere. I don't do drugs myself and I don't care other people taking drugs, but at 24:00 I felt like I was the only one not taking drugs . The drinks were 2 euros more expensive then on Pandemonium, 7 euros /beer. Still cheaper then in the other clubs. Getting to the bar was near impossible later on the evening. Even outside. That being said, the music was great. Matthias Tanzmann rocked the place and earlier on the night Clive Henry and Dan Ghenacia did a great job by filling the entire terrace early. There were a couple of sit down moments. Untill 23:00, when I got too busy, I had a great time. Best moments of all the nights in Ibiza. P. Diddy (or what's his name nowadays) was also in the dj-booth. Doing nothing really. Just sitting there. I don't understand that, but maybe that's me... 8) Circo Loco @DC10 is still (or should I say again) a great night, even when it's too crowded.

We also tried to go to Cafe Ole @ Space. We had tickets valid until 01:00am. We were there at 00:45am and there was a huge line. When we finally were on front of the line the (very impolite) doorman refused to let us in because it was 01:10am. I understand there are rules, but please Space, invest in some more polite doormen.

We only went to 4 (almost 5) nights in the clubs. That's because I also like to enjoy the Island itself. The great restaurants, beaches and people also need attention. ;)

We went to a couple of restaurants. Some restaurants I really like are:

Es Ventall, Sant Antoni. Great food for reasonable prices. Modern mediterranean food. Take a table in the garden and you will have a great night. Let the waiter advise you on the dishes and you will have a great meal. Forgot my camera over there. They were kind enough to call me on the telephone number on which I called to make the reservation to tell me I forgot my camera. Now that's what I call great service!

El Zaguan, Eivissa. They serve pintxos, which are sort of tapas on a little piece of bread with a stick in it. You get yourself all the pintxos you like from the plates and you keep the sticks. When you are done you give the sticks to the waiter and she will bring you your bill.

Roca Verd, Sant Josep. Great for a coffee, a smoothie or a sandwich. Not expensive and their terrace is really nice.

We also went to Formentera. Normally I take the ferries leaving from Eivissa, but now I tried the boat from Figueretas. It cost me 18 euros for a return trip. The boat is slow and old, but it brought me to Formentera in one piece. If you have the time you can take this boat and save yourself some money. If you like a faster and newer boat, take the ones from Eivissa.

One thing I also noticed is the enormous increase of tourist from the Netherlands. I'm from the Netherlands myself, but in the past years I didn't see that much people from the Netherlands. They were everywhere. It think it has to do with all the Dutch celebrities promoting the Island (Wesley Sneijder and his wife to name one). Personally, I don't like to be surrounded by Dutch people on Ibiza, but hey, they can also say the same thing about me.

Personally I had a great holiday again on Ibiza. I think the party's were at least as good as last year. Next year I will be trying to go in September though.

Same here. I'm Dutch and I really don't like most of the Dutch that visit Ibiza. They act like they own the place. All they can talk about is how big and expensive their villa is and how amazing it was in the VIP area of Pacha. Blahblahblah. How sad... I usually refuse to talk to these people. I rather focus on people that know what Ibiza is really about and don't need material stuff to make them feel good about themselves!!

Great review!

Was at these two, I had an excellent night at Pandemonium.. Probably one of the best of the holiday, definitely my favourite kind of muisc (although I still can't work out if Vulcano classifies as Deep House / Percussive House or something else?) and I love the vibe at DC10 and lack of pretense. On the Wednesday for Kehakuma I decided to give it a miss and hit Dubfire + Davide Squillace (wise decision imo) but my friends went and said they'd never seen space that empty. They thought Tiefschwarz played the same tracks they always play although enjoyed 2000 and One + SiS.

For Circo Loco it was the anniversary party, the line up wasn't released and there was a lot of hype. I persuaded my friends who'd never been to Circo Loco that we should get there early as it would be rammed. Stuff we were hearing seemed to corroborate this; tickets sold out, rumour of Villalobos / Loco Dice / Richie Hawtin. The impression was definitely given that it was going to be a special one and that perhaps the outdoor stage would be assembled...

So when we arrived at 6.30 I was pretty disappointed. It was practically dead. The main room was totally empty and the terrace was very sparsely populated. I could live with this but my friends weren't too impressed with me + Circo Loco. I was probably one of those less discreet illicit substance consumers that you were put off by, but the result of that was I was able to wobble around and enjoy Tanzmann's set + the day/night generally. Whereas one of my friends who'd been drinking hard rapidly sobred up and then became hungover and spent the hours sitting outside feeling miserable. The other friend had a decent time though.

Anyway it was a shame that it wasn't bigger/better. It did rapidly become very rammed (lots and lots of English people that was surprising and I guess unwelcome tbh) but where were the surprise DJs and how was this anniversary party any different to a standard Circo Loco packed with residents (P Diddy behind the decks does not count).

Oh and on the line up printed in DC10 Tania Vulcano was nowhere to be seen, yet on the fb page she was listed as playing (can guarantee she didn't). Similarly, the week before she was due to be in the Terrace at like 8.30 or 10.30 or something, so I duly planted myself there and waited for System of Survival to **** off so I could listen to something with a bit more drive, but he never did. After a stupidly long set Timo Mass stepped up at which point I decided **** this and went to see Tato in the main room (wise decision).

Anyway I'll put together my own review at some point (keeping it far briefer than my openings epic) but thought I'd pick up on that. Dislike the Circo Loco overhyping and absence of DJs listed as playing. Also pretty disappointing after the opening which was so good to finally get to show my mates what I was on about and it massively fail to meet expectations.

Excellent review - a very balanced take on things, especially DC10.

Would be really great to see some of your photos of restaurants, etc as haven't been to either of them before.
