Can anybody point me in the right direction for a Flao recipe ?

I was in a tapas restaurant last night and that reminded me of wanting to try some last year in Ibiza and not quite getting round to it.

My wife has kindly volunteered to make some if I can locate a recipe.

Cheers

i made one last week for my daughter's 3rd bday fiesta.................i'll try and find the recipe;) :)

I love flao!:D :D

Thanks Grego.

Let Google transalte the site :

Ingredients

+ 400gr of flour
+ 400gr of tender cheese
+ 400gr of sugar
+ four eggs
+ 6 grams of matalahúva
+ a tacit one of anise
+ 6 leaves of mint
+ tacit water average
+ tacit olive oil average
+ 50gr of dust sugar

Method

To put the flour in an earthen bowl, to add the water, oil, anise and grains of matalahúva. To mix avoiding grumos and to knead leaving the mass hard. To extend the mass on a round mold (of low walls) greased in oil. To cover the wall with the mold with mass. To beat the sugar with eggs very well, to incorporate the crumbled cheese and the leaves of mint. To mix until obtaining a thick cream. To cover with her the mass. Hornear 40 minutes to 175ºC. To serve to cold and place setting with the dust sugar.

I get the general idea but some of that is fairly bizarre and a touch surreal and may not result in an authentic Flao !!!

This is the recipe I used - http://www.massrecipes.com/recipes/04/09/ibizancheesetart6443.html

I didn't get a chance to try the authentic flao while I was in Ibiza so I decided to make one myself.

From the photos, what do you think, did I succeed? It's extremely sweet but delicious, and the crust didn't burn! This one was made with fresh ricotta, goat cheese, the cream cheese square and fresh mint leaves. I used Domino's white sugar in this recipe, in which the recipe called for a lot. Too much white sugar makes I feel like I'm on the brink of diabetes, so I try to use brown sugar or turbinado in moderation (coffee, tea, etc.) I'm wondering if a flao would come out okay if I used Domino's Brownulated sugar (which pours like white sugar but doesn't react in your system as quickly, and gives everything a nice sweet flavor) or even turbinado (though turbinado barely tastes like anything, so maybe I'd rule that out). I do not want to try this with Splenda or anything synthetic - that would be criminal!

I made Flao last for my party the other night. I didn't hve a chance to eat any in Ibiza either. I saw some at Cafe Mar y Sol, but don't know why I never made it there. Anyway, looks a lot like mine. I used oraganic cane sugar, the cheese and mint. I didn't make the crust, but bought a premade graham cracker crust and put some anise oil in it. It was a hit at the party.

I'll try it next time with the organic cane sugar - what recipe did you use?

I had a great dinner at Mar y Sal, the chicken breast with fries, and some agua con gas. I wish I had thought of the flao at that time! I was watching the live lobster in the tank, and those flames as they were starting up the BBQ.

every time i'm in ibiza airport there are hundreds of boxes of authentic flao accompanying people on their way home.

why not take some back that way next time you're on the island.

never thought to look at the airport...

I didn't see any flao for sale at the airport, just loads of ham, club merchandise and other trinkets. My original plan was to have it in Dalt Vila but was never in the right place at the right time for it. I also couldn't find the shop that sells the flower petal ice cream cone that McCrackin had photographed.
