Hey

Cant wait togo bakin 3 weeks :Dbut as only there for 6days i need a memory refresh so that i can getstraight into my hols knowing my bearings and the good, bad and ugly bits of Playeden bossain the last couple of weeks!

Any photos of the main roads, restaurants, bars, beach, bora bora or reviews in the last couple of weeks would be very very much appreciated thanks all

The oil slick washed ashore so watch your feet, even if the yellow flag is out for swimming. The tar will stick to your feet but comes off easily with vegetable oil or butter. Other than that PDB was gorgeous and the fun never stopped!

when was this (that you went)? is the oil still a presence on the beaches? i was hoping enough time had passed where it would be completely gone!

I was there July 22 - August 4, about a week after the inital spill. I did read on this board recently that oil washed ashore again after a storm (because the waves were too much for the oil absorbent barriers) but that the beach was cleaned up right away and is open. When I left on August 4 there was still an issue with small pieces of tar washing ashore and getting on your feet (that's where a towel and some vegetable oil came in handy - the lifeguard had it by the pool), but you could swim all you wanted because the barrier was keeping the swimming area 99% clear. It's not like the Exxon Valdez spill where the birds were coming out of the sea soaked in black oil, it's only tiny little pieces of tar, and then the rest of the water is crystal clear. I was taking a walk one night and didn't notice that I had stepped on tar until I rinsed the sand off my feet and saw the black spots! It will take some time to clear away all of the oil, there was over 100 tonnes of it! Don't let it put you off of PDB, though, they're working hard to make sure you have a great time at the beach! I think in 3 weeks you should be fine.

thanks for the update...yeah i'll be there in a week and a half, hopefully it'll be gone by then! but i think we'll only be at bora bora for a day or so anyway. i stayed in san an last summer and want to bring my friends out to some of the smaller, hidden beaches over there.
