RE: Wine in Ibiza?

Hi everyone......

I am getting better and better at searching for a topic before I post....just to let you all know from the start! :D However, I need some expert advice before I leave for Ibiza in 3 weeks, and I couldn't find a previous post to match the information I was looking for.

First off, I will give you my background! I LOVE RED WINE....a good Cabernet or similar is one of my truely favorite drinks.....especially with a meal! I checked this forum and under the search engine typed "Good Wine". Unfortunately, I received over 2300 matches, and the first 5 pages of matches yielded none of the information I was seeking! I don't dare look through the other 90....

SO.....can anybody tell me what to look for when I'm in Ibiza! I would like to sample some good red wines.....preferrably less than 40 Euros/bottle! Can anyone give me advice on what they think is good....given my preferences for wine? Please post any suggestions. It would be really helpful! Also, let me know if you can get these bottles in a supermarket, or if I should be looking for them in a restaurant instead! Thanks a million for any and all responses guys!

Mike

Thanks Silvia.....

Cheers!

less than 40 euros a bottle! the world is your lobster for less than 40 a bottle here. there are hundreds of good reds here in spain. i wouldn't know where to start........but
ibiza has some excellent small producers. can rich is the easiest to get hold of in the supermarkets at about 6 0r 7 euros a bottle. it's ecologically produced and you can tour the vinyard just outside san antonio on the way to buscastell.
there is a very good wine shop - enotecum - opposite the bus station on isidoro macabich in ibiza. they know what they're talking about there and i've been to some of their excellent wine tasting evenings in es galliner in san jose.
my own personal favourites are the big fruity reds from the ribera del duero region around valladolid which are bursting with flavour. try one for about 10 to 15 euros!

I'm sure McRackin will also have some good advice/pictures to post if he sees this thread! :D

Thanks for the response Steven.....where in Ibiza is Enotecum?

I hated red wine until my last trip to Ibiza. The bastards at Plastik got me hooked on it at dinner one time... now I can't stop drinking the stuff when I have a good steak back home. Pretty much anything from the Rioja region I love, although I'm not quite sure how broad that statement actually is. Never actually bought any from the shops, only at the restaurants. But you will have no problems finding quality wine for under 40 euros.

Cheers,
Terry

In most supermarkets you can get plenty of good reds for well under 20 euros - even in restaurants don't expect to pay more than 25.
Can't tell you why, but one of my favourites is Marques de Riscal and it's not because it has the nylon netting around it :P

mmmmm yesss, yerstaday my friend bougth this quality wine to our dinner, another good one is Marques de Murrieta.

Is that why I always get the glasses cleared from the table and replaced by decent ones Silvia - it is a full and mellow wine, no harshness that I sometimes find in riojas plenty of berries tastes and a hint of pepperiness if that makes sense to anyone. Wine is very subjective and I am not very good at descibing it other than to say I have never failed to enjoy a bottle of Riscal.
Anyway, I shall be opening a bottle in Ibiza around 10.00pm on Monday - not long now............................................
