Rail Passes around Europe.

Are there rail passes such that one would pay upfront for the number of days he would need it, and then allowed unlimited use of the rail network?

Also, I'd like to know if the rail network is the same for all of the continent, so that I could use this train pass to go from one country to another, i.e. travel from Paris to Stuttgart.

Is England (and the tunnel connecting the island to the mainland) on the same rail network as the rest of Europe?

In case you are wondering, I couldn't decide if I wanted to go to England, Germany, or France or any other nation, so me and a buddy have decided to backpack across Europe next year.

if you're coming from abroad and travelling for more than a month , the euro rail pass system is better

it allows you to travel for 10 days in 2 months

basically .... you choose your pass ... arrive in one of the countries e.g. paris france and stay there for a week , then you use 1 of your days to travel to madrid spain and stay there , then travel to brindisi in italy and use up another day

itworks out better if you like to stay in places for a while ..
