You joke, they already did radio 2 in Ibiza. https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/articles/3Wpw5s72CWwCNrmg5dfTPxS/whats-onMaybe they should do a Radio 2 weekender? Ken Bruce doing a live Pop Master, Paul Gambaccini does Pick of the Pops and Trevor Nelson finishing with Rhythm Nation followed by hot chocolate all round. Jobs a good’un.
To be fair it is their demographic isn't it ? ;-)BBC2 at Pikes!![]()

I used to listen to radio 2 a lot early 2000s but as the music policy changed and the fact I can listen to music I really want to hear with no chat I don’t see the point. Although I leave it on for the dog during the day when I’m at work.To be fair it is their demographic isn't it ? ;-)

6Music is a good listen for more alternative stuff and they do throw in a random bit of Techno during the day
The problem is the political pressure on the BBC - Radio 1 is officially aimed at 15-29 year olds. So the 'Ibiza' demographic is probably 24-29 part of that age bracket which doesn't help .It does feel like they've ebbing away at it's dance output for years - but still the Essential Mix is a highlight, the 'Residency' programming can be pretty forward looking and Pete Tong show is generally decent. I do worry once Pete Tong leaves / stops that a lot of the more credible stuff will go.
We've gone from Seb Fontaine, Judge Jules, Danny Rampling, Pete Tong to competition winners (Danny Howard) and student radio types that have taken up DJ'ing with a focus on dance music, but perhaps that is reflective of society and change on how radio is viewed now.
Agreed - I went through a good spell of 6Music, their 'rotating' playlist can be a bit annoying and it is a bit pretentious or full of young hip families making falafel or something. Dropped off when Shawn Keaveney went. Mary-Ann Hobbs will always have a dance mix on a Friday and does Techno Tuesday which is good, if you can stand her voiceBlessed Madonna at a weekend is decent as well

That is a real shame. Is it because no one wants or needs to put the time in to get be an established DJ anymore? As long as you have enough followers on social media are you in? And the competitions seem like a quick and easy way in. Or am I just an old fart who doesn’t get it any more?![]()
Interesting. It’s hard to believe kids not being into music as much as previous generations have. Quite sad.As ever, it boils down to why you're in it. All the people I know on NTS and 1BTN are doing it for the right reasons. There's not a lot of money at community-driven stations staffed by volunteers which is why so many are moving to subscription services. A real shame but that's where it's heading. As soon as the big brand advertisers move in then it's game over (see the sad decline of KISS FM.. ). I think what happened with Radio One is they got overtaken by changes in tech and listeners. It made sense to keep the kids when old(er) fckers like me and Johnny Vodka jumped ship to 6 (after they brought in Annie Mac and co) but they didn't realise that the kids are less arsed about music in general now. Worth checking the latest RAJAR stats though - will probably give a better idea of who DOES listen now.
