Quiet this year?

Just got back from 2 weeks away and noticed it seemed quieter this year than it has for any of the past opening weeks that I have been to. Picked up a bit towards last Saturday but was quite odd.

I wonder if anyone else noticed the same? I spoke to some locals and workers and they said it has been very quiet so far this summer season.

I've decided to give it a bit of a rest for a few years due to personal reasons. Along with this, elevated (again) drinks prices in places like Amnesia don't help (eg. 70 euro for 3 vodkas and mixers), raising food prices (pretty much most places we went) and some poor experiences with the less than friendly workers (eg. being grabbed and screamed at by a barman in Flower Power at Pacha because I accidentally walked into one of the VIP sections) mean that I for one will give my favourite place a miss for the next few years. Hopefully things will even out in the meantime. Shame. DC10 was still rammed as the night went on though :)

it's a weird one currently. the very start of the season was very busy and up until about mid june most of nights were also very busy. the last two weeks have been somewhat quiet though that's correct. the island as such still feels very busy to me, but it's true most of the nights (even the most popular ones) are a tad quieter right now - all across the board. it's actually really comfy though.

i think there are two reasons for it - one the footie world cup. i do think that quite a few people have changed their dates around the footie world cup and will come later this season. two - more nights than ever have opened early this season. and the 'ratio' (numbers on nights on a night in relation to clubbers on the island) is just a tad low. but give it a week or max ten days and things will start to change quickly!

Whilst I cannot comment on club nights, I would broadly agree with Stivi. Early season seemed really busy in Santa Eulalia, the promenade was overflowing. Past couple of weeks the numbers seem to have dropped off. A real basic barometer, we live on the main San Carles road, a couple of weeks ago, the traffic seemed almost constant throughout the day, lately is much quieter. My guess is Stivi is on the money, the WC is having an effect on overall numbers. A shame as there are some amazing venues to watch the football, for eg; big 20' screen on the beach last night near Ibiza town!

Definitely thought it was fairly quiet in Crasher, Cream and the West End during my visit (15th - 21st June). Hoping it will pick up for the second week of September visit.

I think we all kind of predicted this would happen a while back.

Taking a very very unscientific poll of me and many people I know - but usually my first trip is Amnesia Opening (used to be around 7 June) for about two weeks after.... so takes you up to late June. I know a lot of "regulars" who go 3 / 4 times a year, with their first trip for openings - that went early this year as Amnesia, Cocoon, Music ON etc opened so early. I am actually surprised how positive the reports are as I thought that mid June to early July would have been even less busy than it seems to have been.

just tells you its quite when float my boat party had to ship two buses from san an the other week.as they had only booked 47 from pdb.mine it was the 18.30;s group.not many around in pdb at night.

As others have said the World Cup has an impact, many plan their holidays around it. Its also a very busy month for events in Britain from the British Grand Prix, Wimbledon, Glastonbury, the hosting of the first stage of the Tour De France...

that said if Drinks prices have gone up again then the clubs need to have a second think, or they risk contributing to a downturn on the island. Surely they now make more than enough from the VIP areas to offer more reasonably priced drinks to the masses.

Also music tends to go in 5 year phases, and Dance music has had a good 5/6 year run since the likes of Guetta started dominating the mainstream charts and getting America interested in Dance. Ibiza & Dance music will never die, but as we saw in the early/mid 00s if the music fashion turns back to say Rock/Indie music then visitor numbers will drop.

Speaking about San An and the West End in particular, May & June have been really quiet. The busier bars have experienced a 30% loss on last year. A lot of people are blaming the world cup and UK festivals, but hopefully July will be busy and it starts picking up by the weekend.

People more interested in the World Cup than clubbing and beaches. Pure and simple. I think San An is also getting hit with impact of early closing and on-going financial hardship for many. They've gone for it last couple of years betting on a turnaround, but for many basic cost of living has soared, earnings haven't kept up and the slack just isn't there any more.

I'm sure we were having similar conversations on this board in 2010. Luciano/Cadenza just started at Pacha and was bit slow to kick off. Post World-Cup all changed and numbers were up...

Why don't the clubs make drinks a Lower price say 9-10e for a vodka mixer people may actually buy them and spend more

Worked well at Gala Night for us when we did Captured. Drinks were half the price of Crasher \ Amnesia, so we actually bought more drinks than we would of done had we of been in one of those.
