I wrote a long detailed review yesterday and when I submitted it it got erased! Maybe it was just too long and probably too boring to deserve space on this board.
This was my eighth year straight.
So, I'll do a very quick run down of things we did, places we went, restaurants, bars and clubs.
If you want more detail on any event, restaurant, club, etc. just ask!
Saturday, 30 July
Arrived early afternoon. Had to spend evening on a yacht as villa wasn't ready. Lunched at Café Sidney (Marina). On board chef prepared dinner on yacht. Chilled first night (as always). Just me and an Argentine friend.
Sunday, 31 .July
Were moved to another villa in Cala d'Hort as our villa was still not ready. Picked up a French friend from the airport. Villa was nice, frontline on the sea with big horizon pool and front row view of Es Vedra. Went to We Love Sundays at around 7h30pm which was strangely empty. Not a great vibe going and discoteca still empty at 10 pm (only one person dancing on the floor!!!!). Left, a bit depressed, at about 10h30pm and went for a walk around Dalt Vila. Had a good dinner at KM5.
Monday, 1 August
Finally able to move into the villa I had rented. Beautiful eagle's nest up above Es Cubells with amazing views. Six bedrooms all with private terraces and cable TV (not that we watched any), big horizon pool and alot of lounging space indoors and out. Went for workout at overcrowded Fraile Gym. Went to Sa Punta for dinner (excellent), then El Hotel for drinks (fine women central) before crossing the street for Release Yourself (VIP table in the 'Privado' section thanks to Sa Punta). Outstanding night - I finally felt Ibiza again after stressful and depressing beginning. Sanchez is God!
Tuesday, 2 .August
Lazed around the pool (still only three of us). Went for lunch at Cap Es Falco (nice secluded spot on the beach with good food). Picked up Brazilian friend at airport and went for a drink at Es Cavallet beach. Had dinner at Macao Café (great wines, don't like location though) and then drinks at Le Dome (first time I had been back in four years - it has lost all of its spontaneity). Called it an early night, back at the villa by 3 am.
Wednesday, 3 August
Pool and Fraile gym are the midday activities. Then lunch as Escollera at Es Cavallet (quite good fish). This was our 'gay day' to make one of my friends happy - so we went to Chiringay beach - which I didn't like at all - bad vibe - not Ibiza for me - convinced my friend of our need to leave early to 'avoid traffic'. Went to an empty El Ayoun for dinner (acceptable, not fantastic) and then to Amnesia for La Troya (first time for me). Excellent party, so-so music. Our VIP table was in the Terrace, but not one of the best.
Thursday, 4 August
Finally able to find three Brazilian friends who arrived from Rio at the airport after two previous failed attempts. Basically at up my whole day. Evening went to Sa Capella for dinner (excellent - both fish and meat dishes). Due to the tired Cariocas, we went back to the villa at around 2h30.
Friday, 5 August
Hired a boat for a day of roaming around Formentera. Obligatory lunch stop at Juan y Andrea's (alot of celebs there that day). Went for dinner at El Olivo at around midnight and then to F*** Me I'm Famous at Pacha. My French friend is Cathy Guetta's personal trainer in Paris so we were well received. Had a great VIP table with enough space to dance. Fight broke out in VIP section (first time I'd seen that). Guetta OK, though not a big fan. Live vocals for World is Mine was cool. At the end of the evening I had three very drunk and very big Brazilians to navigate out of the club at 7 am.
Saturday, 6 August
Chilled at the house. Late afternoon went to pick up my brother and his girlfriend arriving from Los Angeles. Met friends for drinks at the Blue Marlin in Cala Jondal. Went for dinner at L'Elephant which I really like, particularly the new rooftop terrace with great views. Sit in restaurant facing spiral staircase for great views of beautiful women wearing unbelievably short skirts walking up the stairs (some try to hide it, others don't care). No clubs that night, home by 2h30am
Sunday, 7 August
Lazy pool day and mega BBQ (my bro's a chef). We are now eight at the villa. Then we head to Space around 19h30. Much better than previous week, though still somewhat empty. Groove Armada were, well, groovy. I like the new terrace, but the side terrace has more of the old terrace vibe. Went home around 1h30am
Monday, 8 August
Argentinian left for Buenos Aires (see you at Creamfields BA on 12 November) and I picked up my innocent 19 year old cousin from Sacramento. Stayed around the pool and then off to Sa Punta for another excellent dinner. We had the best table in the house to watch the fireworks over Dalt Vila (great evening and great food). Went to Release Yourself for another incredible evening - the best table as it was between two go-go podiums - they had to walk by our table each time they changed dancers. Sanchez is bigger than God!
Tuesday, 9 August
Everyone wakes up late. My cousin still in shock from last night (her first club ever) and we head to Blue Marlin for lunch around 6pm (food not very good). That evening we go to KM5 for a late dinner and hang around for drinks afterward. The place was jammed pack and we met an amusing and very drunk mother and daughter team! Home by 4am.
Wednesday, 10 August
Not a very nice day. Stormy in the morning and cloudy most of the day. So we go go-karting - which was a riot! After that we pick up another French friend at the airport and proceed to Sa Trinxa for drinks - sun starts coming out (amazing what a couple of caipirinhas can do). We go to La Ventana for dinner (great place, a bit more quiet than other old town restaurants). Then go to Underground to meet some friends for drinks. Around 3 am it is off to our fantastic VIP table at La Troya's Special Brazil night (remember, I have four Brazilians in the group). The best night! What a great vibe! The place was packed and hopping. Music remains a weakness but who cares at this stage. Brazilian friends new most of the go-go dancers. Terrace goes wild at around 7 am when DJ plays Insomnia! Light shining through. Leave club around 7h30 and get pulled over by Guardia Civil for alcohol test - luckily both drivers passed!
Thursday, 11 August
Got back to villa and immediately turned around to drop one Brazilian at airport going back to Rio. Strange seeing a big musclehead cry in the check in line - he didn't want to leave! Hung around the pool rest of day, then off to El Ayoun for dinner (too crowded, didn't get seated until 1h00 am, but Dan Ghenacia was DJing in El Privado - excellent). Left for Cream around 2h30am. Great VIP table easy access between Discoteca and Terrazza - actually spent more time on Terrazza listening to Mylo and Jacques Lucont (truly a genius) then Tiesto, Nu NRG or Paul van Dyk - too boring this year. Head back to the Villa at 7h00am
Friday, 12 August
Drop off remaining Brazilians who head back to Rio and pick up two French couples arriving from Paris. Lazy pool day, then off in the evening for a relaxing meal at Sa Capella. Starting to feel a bit run down. No club that night.
Saturday, 13 August
Great day spent on a kick-ass boat (Danyboat) roaming around Formentera and lunch at Juan y Andrea (where else?). We were 11 of us on board. Tremendous sound system. Got back to villa around 9h30pm then off to Space Radio 1. Too many people, slow line and not feeling well, so blew it off and went to Macao Café for dinner. Back at the villa around 3h30am
Sunday, 14 August
Really not feeling well. Mega BBQ again. Space at 19h30. Empty again. Bob Sinclair sucked. Left around 12h30 for dinner at L'Elephant.
Monday, 15 August
Lazy pool day. Feeling a bit better. Dinner at Sa Punta (another firework show, same table) then off to Release Yourself (same VIP table): place was hopping. Had to leave around 5h30 am to catch our 7h00 am flight back to Paris.
Ibiza 2005 Bests: Sa Punta, Release Yourself, La Troya Brazil night
Ibiza 2005 Worsts: Space We Love Sundays, El Ayoun, Blue Marlin, Ibiza Angels proposing massages in clubs!
I'll be back next year for sure. Actually I am leaving for the white island tonight - still have the villa until Monday! And I will be back for Space closing party.
This was my eighth year straight.
