Public perception of Ibiza

Not sure if many of you out there will agree, but I'm constantly amazed at people's perception of Ibiza. I love the place, I've been there a good few times and recently, I've even looked at this forum about it. I find it amazing that people can be so prejudiced against what I think is one of the greatest places on the planet.
If I mention to any of my work colleagues that I'm off to Ibiza, you'd think I'd said that I'd just shat in my pants. At first I found it quite insulting that they based their perception of the place on what they'd heard it was like, or got it confused with one of the other places featured on club reps etc..., and took it personally that they were denigrating the only place that I would say I'd actually like to move to. Now I just appreciate that it's a good test of character. Anyone who pre-judges me or my choice of destination is really doing me a favour and saving me time working out whether they are a nobend or not.
Anyone else encounter this, or is it just me that works with a bunch of dicks?

No I totally agree - last year when I told my boss I was off to Ibiza he said "have you packed your extacy?!" - I didn't know how to react as i love the place! It almost makes you a bit hesitant when people ask you where your going  however, i've been there and I know what it's like 1st hand and that's all that matters......

i think most people, including myself are suprised how much they love the island when they visit for the first time, this is a good thing if you ask me

It's only the British who have this dim view of Ibiza, I think we can thank "Ibiza Uncovered" for that. The rest of Europe see Ibiza as a chic resort with some of the best clubs in the world.

I get very irritated that the British press refer to Aya Napa and not Cyprus, Faliaraki and not Rhodes, yet it is always Ibiza and not San Antonio that gets the bad press. My suggestion to your frinds in the UK is to tell them to stop reading the Daily Mail and come over and see for themselves what a fantastic island this is.

Well, I don't know if it's only the British, but there are very few people here in the States that know what "an Ibiza" is.

There is definately not a negative perception as there is no perception at all. (Hello Ibiza Tourist Board!!! Marketing opportunity!)

I think that there is no smoke without fire, Ibiza has its reputation for being a party island shag fest because it is a party island shag fest. But like an funny shaped thing, it has many sides. However when I hear people sing its praises like some sort of spiritual awakening they have had while being on the island, then they are looking through rose coloured glases.
Most of ibiza is a rip off, extoranate prices, ridiculous pretend VIP culture, and huge crowds, it can display the absolute worst, while being marketed as exclusive and hi class, which the gullible masses who flock to the island buy into.
However the great side of Ibiza is still there under all the big buisness.
However I have spent 20 years traveling all over the world and I can tell you there are many places that will knock the spots off Ibiza for clubs, sunsets, beaches and that bohemian vibe.
My top tip is Buzios in Brasil. Its got the lot and will cost you a fraction of what Ibiza wants from your hard earned cash.
I know I sound negative I'm not dissing Ibiza but from my viewpoint valhalla its not, just a great place to let off steam and get a tan.

Absolutely same here )) when my colleagues found out i`m going to Ibiza they were shocked ) None of them ever been there but its like smth suggestive, I mean "indecent" for them lol.

same here but i think its more of an age thing most people mid 20s and younger think its brillant place but the older people think its like kevin and perry and human traffic kind of thing but as you say if they havnt been its stupid for them just assume thats what its like this is my third year and i would keep going till ma old legs cant carry me anymore

I get the same reaction - my grandparents nearly had a fit when I told them I was going to Ibiza for my first girly holiday abroad. Having my own place since I was 18 meant I never had the chance to go abroad so when the chance came up last year I jumped at it. The amount of people who had said it was full of people on drugs, drinking all the time and I would hate it! Well I must say, not everyone was on drugs and those theat did use them did not push it onto anyone, yeah people were drinking but they do that in England and I LOVED IT!!! Coming back again this year (108 days to be exact) and I cant wait.

I stayed in Bergantin Hotel in San An Bay and met the best bunch of people as well as the staff in Donnagans and the Pink Panther.

I think those people that complain and bad mouth IBiza have never been so would not have any idea what a great place it is but all us Ibiza lovers know the truth!! :p
