With both artists fresh from their concerts at Glastonbury last weekend, Mikill Pane and Professor Green landed in the Balearics to play at the intimate setting of the Mallorca and Ibiza Rocks Hotels. The novelty this week was that, along the two residents Ste-V-Something and Colin Peters, The Postman (Propaganda) warmed up between bands instead of Nicola Bear or Doorly.
Up and coming London rapper Justin Smith Uzomba a.k.a. Mikill Pane, whose debut album Blaming Miss Barclay will be out in september, had the mission of opening this week.
Accompanied by his band, The Remedies, the tattooed singer offered us a short but intense show with stuff from his several EPs and new songs from the previously mentioned new release. Highlights included "Dirty Rider", "Good Feeling" and especially "Make Us Say" for its witty lyrics and chorus!
His performance went down a storm and got people ready for the main act.
Fully recovered from his car accident last may, Professor Green made a triumphant return to the Ibiza Rocks Hotel stage after his gigs in 2011 and 2012.
After all these years going to Ibiza Rocks, we can't remember so many deafening screams from the female fans as when he went on stage (more than one wished they brought earplugs!). Stephen Paul Manderson already announced he would be presenting some of the new material from his third album Growing Up In Public, to be released in october, from which he played "I Need Church", "Are You Getting Enough?" (the first single featuring Miles Kane) and "Little Secrets". You can imagine the rest: some of the biggest tunes from Alive Till I'm Dead and At Your Inconvenience like "I Need You Tonight" (merged with Daft Punk's "Get Lucky"), "Just Be Good To Green", the brilliant "Jungle" or "Read All About It", the last song of the night.
Among other celebrities, Calum Best enjoyed Pro Green's show from the comfort of the VVIP.
Afterwards, as we're going to Pikes today for its 33rd anniversary, we opted for Ibiza Rocks Bar and Es Paradis to carry on after the hotel. Good fun both of them!
Still to come: more piccies, both setlists, etc...
