OOOOOOH MY FOOOOKING LORD!
Last night's opening gig was the best piece of live music I think I've ever witnessed in my life!
The band was sooo tight and it was like Incognito x 1,000!
Prince's live package is amazing - I've seen some of his dvd shows and tbh I thought they'd been spruced up with clever editing and post production but the guy is completely real. A complete legend - and it's such a privilege to spend a night in the same room as him.
...not to mention at the after party (Indigo is an ace live music venue and 3121 completely brought the house down).
As well as all the classics (Kiss, rasberry beret, little red corvette, controversy, purple rain blah blah) he threw in a few unexpected moments such as Nothing Compares 2 U (Sinead O'Connor) and Chic - Le Freak (which was ).
The stage was in the middle on a symbol shape and the lighting was very impressive. Such a nicely structured show with loads of freestyling and even some laid back lounge moments between the dancy numbers. I've never seen anyone command a venue of that size before, usually wembley arena/earls court type gigs tend to be a bit watered down in atmosphere but Prince made it feel like a tiny jazz cafe. 8)
...and he did about a million encores...once half the arena emptied and then we heard loads of screams. He suddenly walked through the crowd and jumped up on the stage at which point there was a mini riot while everyone ran back in and the lights got turned down.
Anyone that's going - you really are in for something special. Five stars from Robder.
I've had about 2 hours sleep and am at work buzzing my t!tties off on caffeine. Last night will power me on till 18h00 for sure.
