Prescription Meds

7/10/08

I have to make a Dr's visit or do I?

I need to pick up some prescription meds. My last Holiday I picked up some cheap Beta-blockers in Thialand as Prescriptions are not needed to buy meds. (not to mention viagra).

Can you drop into a pharmacy in Ibiza and purchase just about anything like a third world Country or do you have to get a Dr's prescription.

And if a Dr's visit is forethcoming, how difficult is it to get a quick appointment?

you need a prescription to get even basic antibiotics, So I would think you will need one for those, There are a lot of "private" medical center`s here, look for the red + It was about €60 for an initial consultation ( about 18 months ago) but that would get you med`s, waiting time,,,,, however many there are waiting, usually none.
Have a good one

if you get a prescription from your doc.you can use it over there.you might get different box ect.but you will need a prescription to obtain your stuff.

suggestoins

Thanks a lot for the info. I am happy to hear it doesn't sound like too much of a hassle to get Heart Meds...(just Beta blockers for palpitations under stress...no worries mates). If I am staying in the Jet Apartment area, where's a close neighborhood with a no hassle Doc that can perscribe heart medication? Do I need an English speaking Dr. so asking for Viagra wont be such a hassle? Do most Spanish Dr.'s require any testing to give prescriptions or are they happy to take your money and move along to the next cash paying patient?

i have just told you take a prescription from your home doctor.then go to the chemist up the road and get them.

but really you should take enough tablets with you to last your hols.if you see a doctor it will cost you loads.

Great unattainable advice

Okay,

Imagine money is not much of an object...not bragging just lots of disposable income right now. Really happy to be alive the last couple of years.

I'm stuck in a desert for 4 months at a time. I have little access to health care. I am not going back to the US before getting to a Dr in Ibiza. Also, I will be exactly out of heart medecine when I hit the ground in Ibiza.

I am more worried about wasting a complete day in a Dr's office than spending a 1000E on frigging test when I allready know the results.

Again, thanks a lot for the info...I do appreciate the help. If you can recommend a Dr that is less of a hassle I would appreciate it. I dont want to have to stay a day in Dubai just to go to the American Hospital.

if you can wait till you get to ibiza then.see a doc there and get what you need from him.take an old box with you.so they can match up your stuff for you.you say your staying near jet ,where abouts really are you staying at..see where its says garbi.just near there is a small medical center.so there should be a doctor there.you pass the pharmacy on the way.but nip in 1st and ask them.show them your drugs you need.you might get them with out seeing a doctor

I can't imagine that any doctor in Ibiza will supply a prescription for heart medication without a full range of tests. I also doubt that any pharmacy will fill a prescription from a non EC country; Spain isn't a third world country that dispenses prescription drugs under the counter for cash. I suggest that you make sure that you have all your medication before you arrive here or you might find that you spend a lot of time sitting around in medical centre receptions when you should be on the beach.

no choice

Thanks Casper and Wood...Really I have no choice. If your in Ibiza for the last two weeks of Sept I'll spring for a few drinks. More info if you have it please.

It looks like I'll be relying on my liguistic skills to explain my medical situation. I I wonder how much time I am going to waste at an overpriced clinic?

Plus, to go back to Dubai through the desert I have to have a Dr's note and a copy of the actual presciption or it's months in a Dubai jail...not worth the risk. There's an article on a guy that's in for years due to a pot seed stuck to the bottom of his shoe.

Hi,
I am on Betablockers,(atenolol) which I can go to the any farmacia in Ibiza and ask for and purchase over the counter at the cost of 3.98 euros for 60. But I can't buy antibiotics over counter. If I go to a doctor my doctor in Ibiza and get prescription for atenolol I pay 39cents for the same tablets.
I believe the reason for not being able to purchase antibiotics is because of people where using them for most complaints without going to the doctors.

Hope this helps.
