In essence these seem a great idea- you pay in whatever amount onto the card and then use it just like a Visa credit card/cashcard when you're abroad. The leaflet they give you says that they will replace lost or stolen cards anywhere in the world within 48 hours but.....Not in Ibiza it seems! Whilst away last week I lost my wallet (it might have been stolen, exactly what happened to it is a total mystery). I got up on Tuesday afternoon to find my wallet missing and immediately got on the phone to cancel my credit card (Beneficial Finance said it would be sent to my home address within 5-7 days and true to their word it arrived yesterday), my debit card (NatWest said it would arrive here 7-10 days and so I'm still waiting), but the guy on the end of the line at the Post Office said that I should get my replacement card within 48 hours.
So far, so good.
Wednesday came and went and on Thursday about tea-time my card still hadn't arrived, so I got back on the phone. I was informed that as I had informed them about my missing card at 3pm I had missed the cut-off point for sending cards out (which is apparently mid-day) and so my card would not arrive until Friday (my day of departure). Why hadn't they informed me of this in the first place? No idea as the lady on the other end of the phone couldn't answer that.
Friday came and as we were about to get a taxi to the airport at about 6pm I gave them yet another ring. The lady on the other end of the phone suggested I ring the following day from the UK and in the meantime they would try to find out what happened.
Saturday morning arrived and I spoke to yet another lady on the phone. She couldn't find any record of my problem, so went to get a manager. they found my case and said they'd try and track what had happened to my card which should have been delivered to my hotel by UPS. They rang me back and to my utter surprise (not) they had not been able to find the tracking number to see what had happened to my card. I said they would have to send it to my home address and they said it would be with me in 7-10 days!!! I said I wasn't having that as they (supposedly) were able to get one to Ibiza in 48 hours. The woman at the end of the phone (quite sarcastically I might add) said that it wasn't an emergency card replacement anymore. I persisted and so she said they would send it special delivery and would be with me on Monday or Tuesday.
It is now 1:10pm on Tuesday and I'm about to go to work and there is STILL no sign of the card (which incidentally still has 600 unused Euros on it).
I'm completely furious about this and would advise anyone thinking of getting one of these cards to seriously think again as the Post Office is completely bloody useless if you lose it. I dread to think what would have happened if, as I usually do, I had travelled to Ibiza on my own. As it is I owe my mate 300 Euros.
Bunch of cnuts!!!
