Please read the end of this

dont worry buckers. i am praying for your soul as i type, just like you asked us to..

You can imagine though.

Idiots: We´ll pray for you anyway

B: No don´t

I: We will

B: If I catch you praying for there´ll be trouble!

I think I got the gist of it from the new scientist article (and podcast). I don't agree that you can just abolish religion, I think a sizable percentage of the population will always need religion in some form or another, 'opaite of the masses' and all that.

Just realised how glib that sounded and so no offence to anyone's religion! Just making the point that I think many people need something bigger to believe in.

Anyone watch the South Park episodes Go Go God?

I'll try not to spoil it if you haven't (because you must, Buckley!) but there's scenes in the future that pit 3 aetheist leagues against each other.

In other words, you can take away the religion but we'll still find things to divide us!

interesting sounding book mark. Read it out aloud and mp3 it for me

I take a similar stance to buckley and possibly mark by the sounds of it. I like to question people about their beliefs on occasion (particularly christianity).

At my last job one of my good workmates there was a christian. I posed the question:

If an atheist old lady who had always been caring and respectful of others finally popped her clogs of natural causes; what would happen to her?

to which he replied:

"She would go to hell"

Obviously i was a little disgruntled and tried to say that she was some amazing woman who had been a good samaritan her whole life. "The lord is the gateway to heaven" is the only answer i got in return. I questioned why this woman should be punished because the only thing she has done wrong is not worship the lord. I then said God must be pretty selfish :)

Yeah i think south park have raised many points about religion in the past; both the good and bad. The mormons one for example had a positive message about religion.

I think religion can be a good thing for the right group of people. The majority of religions offer a base of decent morals and can be used together with good parenting to bring up a rounded individual. I see religion as a great tool much like the myth of 'father christmas'. Every year children are reminded that they must finish their dinner or keep their room tidy otherwise father christmas will find out. Not only is father christmas a deterrent for bad behaviour, he is also in a position of respect and presents a role model of kindness. If you relate this to christianity for example, your reward is not the pile of presents for you on christmas day, it's entry to the pearly gates of heaven. As an individual develops they may continue to believe in God as the ideals of christianity can give hope when times are hard and vice versa.

However, my belief is that good parenting and the family unit can far surpass any religion. I was lucky enough in my upbringing to have both of these (imo) so I think that is the reason I never felt the need to turn to religion. Thats not to say that religious families are disfunctional, far from it. Religion can sometimes be used to strengthen the family unit. On the other hand, it's unfortunate that certain individuals interpret religion in a different fashion. The kind of behaviour that is replicated in buckleys other thread about the 24-7 people. Although they truly believe they are do-gooders I feel they have completely misinterpreted religion and are abusing it for their own needs. :(

haha! 'snuffed it' or 'pushin up the daisies'. The latter always makes me think of an old woman living underground just slowly pushing stalks through the dirt.

I've had emailed apology from them and they've taken the article down. They say they intended to take down all references to private conversations as they'd realised that invididual recollections of conversations can differ from the exact truth.

<H3>Say Halleluya with me brother!!!

But the cowardly, the unbelieving, the vile, the murderers, the sexually immoral, those who practice magic arts, the idolaters and all liars—their place will be in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death."

Revalations 21:8

Can I get an Amen?!
