OKay everyone. I'm from Westchester, New York. Many of you don't know where that is but that's okay. Got a couple of questions about iBiZa...First, a little bit about mysefl and my friends so you all get an idea of what we are like...

I live close to New York City but I don't go much to the super club scene. Mostly to bars or friends places to chill. I will most likely be coming with 4 of my buddies, all of which are like me and are 26-27 years old. We all love to have a good time and meet women when we go out. Like I said before, we like to party but don't know much about the whole music and dance scene that seems to be huge out there. I'm not saying we aren't open to it, just saying that we haven't experienced it that much. To describe myself more, I'm more like the surfer/laid back type. Like hangin out with friends and like to drink. I also like to dance, but mostly to hip hop because that is whats popular around here. Please don't bash me for it, I'm open to anything.

Now for the questions.
1) Knowing what myself and my friends are like, will we have a good time in Ibiza if we head to the big clubs?
2) We pretty much drink and don't do any drugs. Will we feel out of place if we just drink?
3) Is it easy to talk to women in Ibiza? Might I remind you that I'm from the States.
4) Are there a lot of Americans in Ibiza during the busy season?
5) I also speak a bit of Italian. Are there any Italians in Ibiza?
6) I've heard a lot about the JET apartments in regards to where we should stay? Is this the best spot to have the best of both worlds? Partying and sleeping?
7) What do guys normally wear when going out to the clubs? Jeans and a nice shirt?
Thanks to all who reply to this LLOOONNNGG post. I really really appreciate it. Any other New Yorkers from outside the city in this forum?? Peace. :D  :) ;) :P 8)

Do you have to know the whole "dance" scene to have fun at the big clubs in Ibiza?

I've only been once, but will answer from my experiances

1: Yes, if you even remotly enjoy the music played you will have a good time, just being inside the clubs makes you all warm inside. They are truely marvelous
2: Not at all! Everybody is welcome, unless you act like a complete twat when you drink you will be fine on the island

3: It's easy to talk to 90% of the people in Ibiza mate, seriously I started conversations with people I only saw for like a minute over there.

4: Lots of every nationality from what i Gathered
5: See 4
6: Couldn't tell you, do a search on the forum
7: I wear various things depending on the occasion. If its a big clubbing night, usually T shirt Jeans and Shoes so im not too hot, if its just a few bars a shirt. But there is no real dress code (Except shorts and football shirts in clubs!)
8: No, I was a complete newb to the music when I went last year, now I am fully converted and love it!

Hope that helps

Hey Ghost... I'm also from the States... Philly just down the road from you. Ibiza is an amazing place and I'm positive you and your friends will have an amazing time. I'll answer your questions specifically though...

1. I think you guys will have a great time as long as you are open to new experiences. Most people in Ibiza are also laid back... though most aren't surfers!

2. You won't feel out of place at all. The attitude in Ibiza is do what makes you happy. People don't judge you for your choices.

3. I think that European women have a different attitude towards being hit on. I think you need to be MUCH more subtle and also, if you don't get a response, don't take it personally. Its probably harder to meet women than it is in NY.

4. The last time I went to Ibiza w/my boyfriend in 2000 we met some Americans and certainly made friends with them but... we didn't meet a ton. However, I think that's changed a bit in the last 4 years.

5. There are a lot of Italians in Ibiza

6. My boyfriend and I are staying at the Jet this summer. Its a really great location on a great beach and the people in the area will be approximate the same age as you...

7. People wear anything and everything... costumes, regular clothes, designer clothes... whatever you like to wear is what you should wear.

Have fun!!!

Wow, I didn't expect to get a response that fast.

Thanks so much for the quick reply. Has definitely eased my mind very much since thinking about the whole idea of heading out to the island. Just wanted to clear up that when we drink, we aren't idiots. Not the fighting type who get all angry when they have a few. :-) We love to have a good time and that's what we are looking for when we come. Man, I feel soo much better now. Thanks to all once again for the quick responses. I'm beyond happy now!!!

Few more questions.
Is it difficult to get from San Antonio to the town of Ibiza if we don't have a car? Can you walk it?

Any other reccomendations of where to stay for about 150-200 dollars a night if we book far in advance? We really wanna be where everybody else is. Also wanted to let you know that we love playing volleyball and love anything that has to do with the ocean, hence why I mentioned being a surfer. Not expecting to surf out there though. I know the water seems pretty calm.

What's up with the West End? Seems to be a pretty annoying place huh? I don't think we'll be heading over there.

Okay, no more questions. I swear.

Girl in Philly. Thanks for the info. Ever been up to NY?

Of course I've been to NY! I've lived in the NJ/PA area my whole life. I don't really do the NY club scene either though. Too much money IMO!

You certainly cannot walk from San Antonio to Ibiza or PBD. It take 25 min by car! Taxis are readily available and most people use them (or the busses) to get from town to town. I would recommend a car though if you can do it. There are some really amazing beaches in Ibiza that you won't see if you don't have a car. Its an amazing place to explore!

Many people don't like the West End on this board because there are a good number of young people who go there and get overly drunk and "act a fool" (to use an American term!)... fighting, throwing up, etc. However, its a cheap area to drink.

In terms of other places to stay you should check out the Hotel Guide on this site. You'll find a lot of information there.

Thanks Berry

NJ/PA huh? I used to do business with Hershey and had to go there once/twice every week. I'm in advertising just so you know. Man, that place was horrible. Talk about abosolutely NOTHING to do. What do you do for work? Advertising is cool but the hours stink sometimes. How long and where did you stay when you went to Ibiza? We're planning on going mid July of 2005. I can't wait.

Didn't realize the distance between both cities. So a car would be good huh. Thanks for the info. Well, I'm leaving work. Off to play some volleyball at our local beach court. So nice tonight! I'll be back on the forums tomorrow around this time. Thanks for all your help Berry. Very nice of you. Peace. :D

1) Everyone can have a great time in ibiza, there is something for all, it can also be a place of descovery (music wise!!)
2) not at all. not everyone who goes is on drugs. i went and had an amazing time without drugs....... the first time i went 8O ?
3) weather it is easy to talk to women is down to you and your confidence.
4) wouldnt say americans stick out to be there in numbers?
5) yes there are plenty of italians if you go to the right places e.g not wear all the brits are!!
6) wouldnt mind staying in the jet apartments, thats about all i know of them though, nice beach
7) personally i will either wear nice jeans and a nice t shirt or some pants i cant describe the style of i just call them my clubbing pants.

they a bit like cyber pants but they not as big and they just got a grey stripe down them

From what I've seen in America (only a little) versus this side of the pond, American women don't tend to mind you chatting to them whereas you get almost a five second window with many women over here and if you don't get through that then it's pretty much over as far as any conversation (or anything else) goes.

But then I've been with 'Mrs Jam' for ten years so what do I know?!!

Oh and the nearest thing I guess that could compare to The San Antonio / West End 'scene' would be 'Spring Break' as far as attitude to alcohol and women.

Hope that paints a kind of picture.....I'll now stand back and wait to be disagreed with / shot down / criticized..... ;)

you'll have a fun time in the west end.... you can relate to it better that other parts of ibiza.... it's american friendly.

I don't agree with that statement at all. When I walked through the West End on my last visit I felt completely out of place. There were drunk people tumbling out of doors... Not my scene! I thought that everywhere was "American friendly." I found everyone to be nice and accepting of all. In the end its about your attitude and willingness to accept others. Its also very helpful if you at least TRY to speak to people in Spanish first instead of just assuming they speak English.
