Playa Bella Apartments - San An Bay

Help! Just been reading some recent online reviews of where we are staying soon - Playa Bella.

The seem to be going on about robberies at the pool when you leave your stuff and also rooms being broken into (I know this happens in lots of places though). Up until recently reviews were fairly good and now I am worried it's a sh*tehole I have booked.

Has anyone been there and can give an honest review? I booked thinking I had done my research well! I though it would be suitable for our group of females (60, 50, 50, 31 and 21).

We don't hang around the pool when we go anyway however still not happy if folk are being robbed. Also don't have kids so don't care if the facilities for them are crap. Some reports saying about people pissing over balaconies and sick on the corridor floor. Not good.8O

Hi, Ive stayed over the road from playa bella but used the facilities on a number of occassions, so can only comment on the external facilities.

the pool area is quite large and overlooks the sea but can get very busy during peak season especially with familys as there are a number of children facilities on site. Part of the hotel complex is built on the main san an bay road which has a number of shops and cafes built in with it, this means you can get a lot of the general public walking through the shops and around the pool area, basically using the hotel and a shortcut through to the beach. Its easy for someone to sit in one of these cafes (who is not a tourist) and look down on the pool area and watch for people leaving their sunbeds and not taking their valuables with them, So in this regard it is not that secure, its reasonable easy to get into the hotel without having to go through the main reception to the side of the hotel as there are entrances on the ground level around the pool. A number of apartments that are on ground level are really ground level, i.e. you open you pation door and 10 feet in front of you is the pool area, no balconies etc.

One of the downsides of this hotel is that although its right next to the beach, you have to got down a number of steps to get onto the sand which is very good if your disabled, although there are steep inclines to the side of the hotel to get onto the main road which isnt wheel chair friendly.

Onthe beach itself is a concrete building which is a foul/sewer treament facility (probably 20 by 20ft and 9ft high approx), there tends to be a constant smell of sewage comming from this but can vary depending on the wind direction. it isnt very nice to sunbathe next to and you can smell it when your eating in the restaurants in the playabella

On the plus side, the beach is close and okay, there us a water taxi stop just along from the hotel and there are plenty of shops and restuarnats next to the hotel, there are nice sea views if you have opted for a sea view room. Its about 30 min walk into the town or a ten minute bus ride, there is now a one way system running up to this hotel which is okay if your driving to the hotel from the town but is awkward going the other way as you have to take a different route.

definitely a family style hotel so surprised if the thefts are from guests, there are a few 18-30 style cheaper hotels not far from this hotel and the area is frequented by both families and young boozers....hope this helps.

at the end of the day a lot of hotels suffer with burgularys and you have to put the reivews you see into perspective, a lot of people will leave comments if they are unhappy with a hotel as opposed to those who are happy.

Thanks for info. Luckily we only sleep in our hotel when we travel. Don't spend anytime hanging around there except maybe the last night or so.

I guess the people who commented were pissed off right enough. The reviews from last year I read were positive in the main and came from a mixture of ages etc.

I suppose I just need to form my own opinion when I go. I just don't want the others I am going with to be exposed to any crap.

I stayed at Playa Bella once but it was back in the day (1999)

We had a studio apartment on the ground level which was really small with a support pillar in the middle of the lounge area reducing the space even more. Also there was no air con but I believe its been installed since :? Also our apartment was right next to the maids store where they would congragate in the morning around 7.30 am and gossip and crash mops and pans and do our nuts in with the noise.:spank:

We also had friends who were at the same apartments and they had a one berdoom which was far more spacious so if you have one of them you will be fine.

The apartments are a good location and only 5 mins from Kumharas (which is a bonus). The pool can be busy but you are also at the beach too. I am sure it will be fine.

Never stayed in Playa Bella but have eaten in the restauraunt there many times on the way back from Kumharas. Basic menu but the food is very good and excellent value for money. Try the ribs or the Bahia pizza! The restauraunt and toilets are immaculate - the cleanest I've seen on the island.

I stayed there in 2005 and had a real good holiday the view i had of my balcony was of the waste land at the left side of the hotel then accross the bay. It was alot quiter that side then pool side. I was around the pool alot and never got any problems and never herd of any rooms being broke in to. But no matter where you stay make sure all your stuff is secure. Separate money and keep what you can locked up. Pool side take as little as posible it's not far to pop back to room for more cash.

I've booked for next May with my kids and can't wait to go back to Playa Bella Apts.. the swimming pool is good and it's far enough from town to be away from it all but with the boats accross it makes it so easy to get about as well.
