Clit-rocker and party girl-about-town Skin made her startling Manumission debut last Monday (September 5). The ex-Skunk Anansie singer is a regular at the ‘Mish parties at both ends of the week and her show clearly showed the benefits of research.
It’s a low stage and the bands that have impressed most are the ones who have really taken it to the crowd. But no-one’s done it quite like the sleek chica from Cheltenham.
She blew everybody away with a performance so animated she should have her own cartoon. The black-on-black eye make up gave her an imp-like appearance and Skin leapt about the stage exactly like a whirling dervish.
Off stage she’s mild-mannered, polite, funny and petite - Skin is short for skinny. On stage she’s a monster. None were safe from her ravages – she nipped ears, screamed, punched, kicked and felt up her tight backing band and everyone else within spitting distance.
The Skunk tear-jerker ‘Hedonism’ went down predictably well, with the crowd singing the lyrics from the off. A couple of new songs were aired to an enthusiastic reception then she finished up with the fast-paced rocker ‘Twisted (Everyday Hurts)’.
She’s a cert to appear again in 2006. Look out for details here.
