I got one the same day there a few years back.

And my brother did too a couple of years ago - now that's a day he'll never forget (long, long story but very very funny    )

if you go to the office they will give you one that day.

You need to prove that you are travelling out that day/week to get it quicker though.

check the paspport office website - i think it's ukpa.gov.uk

i have lost my passport loads of times - it is a right pain in the behind, and expensive to replace to boot...

after i'd lost 2 in 4 years they would only give me a 6 month passport so be warned.

you can visit the petty france office n the mornings and have it by the afternoon - but they are much stricter these days since the terrorism scares - so make sure you have all the documents specified on the website plus a police loss or theft report (very important).

if you can't be arsed with all this grief there are plenty of travel companies who will sort it by priority for you - at great cost.

Passport AWOL

Hi I dont know if anyone can help me, but I've lost my passport and I fly on Saturday,

Ive got an appointment at the regional passport office in Liverpool but was just wondering if anyone knew if they issued passports on the same day there.

Thanks

You need to prove that you are travelling out that day/week to get it quicker though.

Are you sure about this cause its a service you pay for anyway so weather you are travelling or not you are paying to get your passport that day. thats the whole reason for going to the passport office.

Kimmyann: yes you can deffinately get one that day

they've changee the rules now that they have their new fancy computer system. Now you have to be travelling within the next 2 weeks to use the fasttrack service, and you have to have an appointment - you can't just turn up at the office anymore.

they used to do it at liverpool but i think they've stopped it now you'll have to ask nish he'll probably know

good job he didnt read my post and run out the door then!!! lol

I just went through all this after washing my passport in my jeans pocket. I was suprised to find that if you damage your passport you have to do an entirely new application just the same as if you lost it. Anyway, here's what you need to do:

1. go to post office, get passport form

2. get your photos, fill in the form, get the form countersigned. Also make sure you have your birth certificate. If you've lost this then you can get a new one from here:

http://www.statistics.gov.uk/registration/certificates.asp

or if you're in a mega rush you can get one the same day by visiting the family records office in Islington, London.

3. phone up your nearest passport office to make an appointment, tell them your date of travel and they will advise on the appropriate fast-track service

It will probably cost you about £100 and you do not have to prove that you are travelling in a few days, or at least I didn't.

tghe proof of travel thing comes with the whole anti-terrorist/asylum seeker climate as one of their biggest fears is identity theft. So if you're docs are lost or stolen, they may ask you for proof of travel...especially if, like me, you'd lost more than 1 passport in a short period of time.
