Me and my girlfriend are hiring a car for the first time in Ibiza this coming summer. We are looking at the site jetcar.com and have seen some ok offers. Im after some advice though on the parking side of things. Ibiza town for example. Is it easy to park up anywhere? Where would you park up if you say went to Formentera for the day? I know the island well location wise but have never had to think about parking in places and that.

Driving to clubs is a no no id rather get the bus/taxi so we can both have a good night without worrying about having to drive back after a heavy night.

Im looking forward to having the car and having more freedom to go around the island easier and more quickly as I have relied on the buses in recent years, going tobe able to see so much more.\

Thanks for any help/info muchly appreciated.

:D

behind the shops on the other side of the road in ibz town where you get tix for the formentera ferry are car parks. 3euros a day it was in April. maybe more in high season.

dont forget that ibz town is a working town during the day with a rush hour and traffic like any other town.

for many 'hilarious' stories on driving and parking in ibz town, Stephen is yer man

btw Sy, having a car is gonna improve your holiday no-end. a different beach every day if you want, lunch in lovely countryside restarurants!

i'd say for a first timer, the one way system, parking, and different 'standards' of driving can combine to be a nightmare in ibiza, san an and santa eulalia.

Russ mentioned rush hour but don't forget Spanish working hours are not the same as in northern europe. we are privileged to have 4 rush hours in ibiza at 9ish, 2 ish, 5ish and 8ish. the last is the worst because it coincides with going home from the beach traffic and going out traffic.

parking in ibiza is easy between 2 and 5 because there's nobody there (not in their right mind anyway) and the blue parking zones are free. in working hours you can only park for 2 hours for about 2 euros (not sure about that because i never use them)

as russ says the best place for formentera ferries is opposite the ferry terminal where the drug addicted gypsy boys will 'look after' your car for an unofficial fee while you enjoy yourself elsewhere.

other than that, driving is a pleasure on the smaller roads and even in the height of summer you can drive for miles without seeing another car.

hello, parking the car in Ibiza centre in august at about eigth and nine is quite a nigthmare, so take in account this for your plannings, we used to have the same problem everyday last year but we liked more to stay in the beach as late as we could, finding in our way back to the hotel the same car park problem everyday. My advice is to try to park in the centre and if the first time you don't find parking go and park a litle bit further and walk back to the centre, if not you will loose your time looking for it and in the end you would have to park far away instead of being in the shower!!!
If you are going to be in Ibiza the 8/august be adware that is a local fiesta so you will have a big problem to park at that time. We went neally mad we could't park anywhere, wondering for about more than an hour, finally we parked infront of Pacha and our hotel was next to Vara del rey. Obviously I am talking of august.
Cheers.

Thanks alot guys, keep the info coming. We are staing in the Costa Mar bit worried about parking around there but what is good is that in being in Cala Des Moro we can use the new back road to avoid going through the centre! ;)

I wondered what that was about. As least my car didn't get damaged when i parked there.

The AA does a good road map.

i was shitting it about getting a car last year, but it totally changed my holiday from the planned club related debauchary to one exploring different beaches and restaurants.

after adjusting to driving on the right hand side, and to a lack or lane discipline i found driving fine.driving around ibiza town during the day was fine and parking wasnt a problem, only drove into town once during the night, it was choca but still nothing too bad.

san an is fine once you get used to the oneway system, realising the alternate streets run in opposite directions. parking in san an was also fine, getting to mambos early and parking behind cafe del mar. there seemed to be a big rush literally 10 minutes before the sun was due to set.

Hi.
And what can you tell me about parking in Playa Den Bossa or in Figueretas?
Thanks in advance... :D

Agreed!

Ps. Russ - apologies for the 'accidental' directions to the villa text. I am a very bad man.
