Took advantage of the Ryanair flights and booked 2 returns for £2.84 8)

Unsure whether I am actually going to use them, but was thinking about surprising the boyf and taking him over for dinner. Timings aren't great, but should get to Palais des Congres for 8pm latest.

Need some advice on budget accomodation and cheap and cheery local style restaurants. Never been before so any advice that might help me decide whether to go for it or not would be much appreciated :p

I believe the best times for eating in Paris are 9 or 6.

Thanks!

Yeh, thought we would time it nicely for 9 eating. Hotel looks good, thanks Barbie. Going to have so little time so everything would need to be planned to the letter - transport is a bit confusing!!

if you stay at the hotel i recommended to barbie, then its easy to sort the transport.;)

catch a train from the CDG airport (the station is in the terminal) to gare du nord or gare de l'est and this only takes a 20 mins or so and is a nice way to see some sights on the way (stade de france, sacre couer)....................from the station get a cab and it's only a short ride, 5-10 mins depending on traffic.:D:D

also angie, on our return we got a taxi/minbus type thing from the hotel to the airport (organised by them)..........there was a sign on the reception desk.

we had a morning flight and couldn't be arsed with the extra time going via train.

if you want any other advice on the area let me know, there is cracking little funky bar not far away and my favourite area of the city (montmartre w/ sacre couer) is within walking distance.8)

See the thing is, the flight is in to Beauvais, flippin miles away :?

Bus drops us at Palais des Congres around 8. Had thought about staying nearer to there, but from what I have read would much rather stay in Montmartre. Are the taxis expensive?

A complete random trip, with little planning (or budgeting!) so trying to keep it cheap n cheery and get the most out of our time there.

Thanks for your help, all tips welcome!

montmartre has loads of inexpensive hotels, just make sure to steer clear from the neighbouring barbès- rochechouart area which is just grim. most restaurants on montmartre and quartier latin are very touristic (=pricey and lacking in quality) so you better go for example to marais. it's a lovely chic gay quartier with lots of little, nice places like ozo: www.ozoresto.com

and the sales are on until 17th of february as well. have fun, paris is lovely!

Thanks Petraxx, had been looking there and have found some very very cheap places. We do only need somewhere to get our head down for a few hours 8)

Thanks for bar tip too :p
