Paradise @ AMNESIA 2023 & 2024 - Reviews & Reports

Opening party was very busy as you'd expect. I think i'm more inclined to like it busier than your average spotlighter, but the terrace was uncomfortably busy at times. took me over 20 minutes to get served at the bar, but that was mainly because the server on my side decided to do go through everyone else twice before serving me, was having a laugh with the girls that were coming to the bar behind/next to me about it, shame none of them pointed me in first though eh? The other room was actually brilliant though, nicely busy and I was very impressed musically, the word that came to mind was groovy, just properly grooving in there 👍 🙌

Has a great time at the opening party, it was very busy as Jay says. Not too bad once we had a spot but moving around wasn’t fun. Thought Ilario Alicante, then Capriati then JJ were all great, East end dubs in the main room too. Can’t beat the terrace once the sunlight starts beaming through the roof 🤩

Just a quick note on the penultimate party with Apollonia and Skepta. Musicwise the main room was fantastic, especially Traumer and Apollonia, but safe to say only few in this bad crowd understood their music. Room was always very empty while the terrace was stacked. What surprised me the most though was how bad the vibe and atmosphere were on the terrace.
While the floor was completely full, Jones payed to an almost motionless quiet crowd of ghosts, completely beside themselves. No cheering, hands up moments and happy jumping around. Just standing.
That‘s what ket does to a dancefloor :/ I read an article once where popular DJs complained that the ket epidemic destroys the vibe on British dancefloors, but I never experienced it for myself, being not British, and in my country ket is no big thing. Call me old, naive or innocent, but I was actually shocked seeing youngsters of 22 years, limping out of this terrace with their ghost faces, in what should be such a happy place. That was a very bad night, only helped by Traumers and Apollonias music.

My first Paradise (at Amnesia) last night. Have obviously done it quite a bit in the DC10 days but never at Amnesia. Having done about 6+ Bedouin’s over last few years, needed a change.

With the added advantage of Apollonia on the Terrace too - thought I would give it a try. Arrived just before 01:30 when Apollonia were due on the Terrace. Was surprised just how busy the Terrace was, everyone was on it early. I’ve always had a soft spot for Apollonia, and they played really well last night. Jamie Jones and Loco came on about 03:30 for their B2B. It did exactly what it says on the tin - tech house over and over They absolutely got the place going, and seeing a full Amnesia Terrace is always a beautiful sight to see. After 2+ hours was a bit repetitive for me, but the place was still rocking.

The crowd was obviously British, but a lot more Spanish and Italians that I had envisaged - the pull on Loco Dice I’m sure! And no spectators either - everyone was on it and there for the night. I.e. less US / Middle East Tourists - but then it’s September, so the change has started.

Didn’t really go in the main/club room much, but it never seemed that busy. Maybe the programming is too similar between both rooms.

Would I choose this over Bedouin most weeks? The answer would be no, but they are very different nights with different target market. However, within its tech house genre Paradise is probably still one of the best IMO.

Terrace was absolutely bouncing last night. Thought it was a very good crowd. Seen Loco Dice four times now and he has never disappointed. I’ve found in the past JJ is a bit his and miss but he was also very good last night. Apollonia set the tone for the rest of the night. Amnesia isn’t going anywhere anytime soon for me

The folks I was with this week weren't up for it, but I was determined to give Amnesia a crack as I'd never made it before after six or seven trips. Loved it! Tech house isn't really my thing but the timings worked best to go on Wednesday and I'm so glad I did. Both rooms were bouncing. As you say, it felt so different to the likes Hi. Lots of people in a big room going for it. Didn't know a single tune and didn't need to.

Thanks a lot for the review.👌

I've missed this night the last few years for some reason or other (one of them going to Bedouin instead) but really determined to make the closing party in a few weeks so was keen to hear what it's like.

From the bits I've seen it doesn't look like there's too many phones on show (compared to Hi at least) so looks like a good crowd.

I prefer the Paradise line-up to Bedouin that week, not a huge fan of Who Made Who, so I think we'll give Paradise a go finally.

Was there a big queue to get in when you got there at 1.30?

I was very pleasantly surprised at the lack of phones actually. Lots of shades and manbags though!

Paradise closing was good, only problem which I was expecting was how busy it got.
I'd say anytime from 3am to when we left at 6am it was impossible to move anywhere comfortably.

Due to this I probably enjoyed Tshas and the start of Hot Since 82s set most when there was still some space.

We were hoping it would quieten down after 5 or so but not much signs of that, maybe people were more prepared to stick it out as it was the closing.
Was also hoping for a tougher tune selection from Capriati, not seen him since his techno days but he was pretty much playing very similar to Jamie Jones.

I'd give this night another go but maybe one when it won't be a sell out.

We debated attending this one over and over, and ultimately went (shock horror). Started in the main room, Rossi came on and the place was heaving; we quickly swerved that as there was no room to breathe let alone dance

Into the terrace and we caught the last of TSHA which was good

Really enjoyed hot since 82, livened the whole room up

JJ and capriati came on at 3:30. As someone said above it’s tech house, but you know to expect when you go in. They had that whole terrace full to the brim and absolutely bouncing !! I thought the back to back was perfect , a remix of party all the time was dropped which went down superb.

We swerved it in the end at 5 o clock. We found the dance floor manageable , it was actually the getting out and in from the smoking area that defeated us. That and neither of us wanted to impact our Sven plans for tonight

there is something about being in a packed out amnesia that just feels so special.

P.s +1 for amnesia not following suit and going with the cans of water like everyone else is now.

This! Same thoughts. But after an hour outside of the terrace went back for an hour between 5 and 6, and right at the back, behind the podium it became manageable.
