my weekend:
IMS:
Started with some drinks at Delano on Friday evening with chilled deep house (Pachanga Boys) before heading to IMS grand finale at around 7pm. Just around sunset behind the hills on this great location. Lineup was fantastic but an actual shorter list of headliners would have given them longer sets. Solomun and Coles must have had only an hour or so. With tracks at around 6 or 7 minutes nowadays a dj can get nowhere in this short time. Väth was my personal highlight, though I also think the time of around 90minutes made for a little 'confusion' in the set. I mean this guy played for over 16 hours at the closing (and after) - that's a Svenset!
Ushuaia:
got there at around 9pm (had planned to be there earlier) and lost my party mood pretty soon. Guys really, rather put out a 'Sold out' sign and let the other people have a great party than fit in everybody who wants to and make it unpleasant. Toilet and bar cues where unreal. We basically took refuge somewhere near the shop and just waited. At around 0.30 when Luciano took over Ushuaia went from 'unbearable' to 'full' and I took to the dance floor. Musically I was surprised to see an extroverted Dice like never before He was actually visibly having fun on stage! Maybe he just needed the fresh air instead of his Amnesia terrace, who would've known. Even his techno was much less boring than usual (IMO). Well, you see, I'm not the biggest fan of him. And then finally I had an awesome time: To see Luciano again was a real homecoming for me and after that Sven played a fantastic set, a little housier maybe than at Dalt Villa. I just love this man so much.
Space:
Got there at around 7pm for some flight park action and had a great warmup by Felix the Housecat and a really deep Sasha set. Wow. Edu Imbernon at the sunset was the suprise of the evening and I'm really looking forward to seeing him at Kehakuma now. Tong started too slow and deep for me so I headed over to Booka Shade. Man, who would've thought they can play banging techno like that?! Finally I got to hear some Chemical Brothers and again, I wouldn't have expected them to play a techno set! So musically I had a great time at Space but - AGAIN - the sheer number of people killed the mood very soon. It also makes you tired so quickly if you always get shoved around and going for a drink or a leak takes ages. Plus: Many people who went were seriously not into the music, I think. Poor atmosphere.
Finally my personal Top5 tracks of the Opening weekend, fresh from the speakers:
1. Matt John - The Keys (Sven's last track at IMS and then again his first track at Ushuaia a day later)
2. Matthias Schaffhäuser - Nice to meet you (Maceo Plex Remix)
3. Tube & Berger - Imprint of pleasure
4. Monkey Safari - Hi Life (Cheeky Bold Cover)
5. Claptone - No Eyes
