Opening or Closing parties?

Guys, ibiza virgin here and I have a very important question for you. I'll be in Ibiza this year no doubt about it, but the time remains a mistery. From what I heard and was told the best time to visit ibiza is during the closing parties Late Sep to early Oct. I was planning to go Sep 15 to Sep 30 that way I would be able to catch most of them (at least I hope so right?), but after reading some things on this forum a lot more people seem to be going for the opening parties. Are they better then closing parties? Will I be safe with Sep 15 to Sep 30 or should I go for Sep 22 to Oct 7? Or perhaps earlier? Or should I forget about the closing parties and go for the opening ones? Thank you for all your help.

Both the opening and closing party seasons are great fun on a partying level. The events are of similar quality and you'll have a good time either way. That Sep 15-30 time period is good for catching a lot of closings. Move it later and you'll risk being around when everyone is gone, which I did once and found very depressing!

I personally like June better because the weather is slightly better (less chance of rain) and the clubs are full but not packed. On the flipside, the water temp is 1-2 degrees C cooler.

I think I have to disagree with you there, Morbyd.

I've been to lots of each and the closings win, IMO. They're usually busier and more intense.

i agree with the doctor on this one. june is good month especially if you live in ibiza as it seems the whole season is ahead of you and that in itself is the exciting part.

BUT, the closing parties have that added spice of 'the last dance/chance to party'........and thus, are often more emotional/wild/memorable:D .

only problem is the new 6am closing law:( , which I feel takes away from the usually everlasting closing parties (part of what makes them special). especially in the case of la troya

Good point Mick

I remember being at Creams opening in Amnesia 98, with Oakenfold & Warren
It was busy but nowhere near as rammed as last years closing was

Yay definitely agree, I do like June cos you're guaranteed better weather and the island is all nice and shiny and fresh.........but solely from a clubbing point of view the Closing Parties are always madder cos everyone knows that's it til next June.

Ok closing parties it is. Will the closing parties for Space, Pacha, Amnesia, and Privilege fall between Sep 15th to Sep 30th or should I change my dates around a little? And everyone is mentinoning the weather is better in June, how much worse is it in Sep, afterall it is on an island in the Mediterranean sea and is it not nice all year round? Thank you.

Pacha is open all year but the guest promoter parties for the summer end around the 30th September mark

Space closes 1 Oct i would imagine

Amnesia & Privilege will prob close around 16th Sept

Weather is more unpredictable in september
we had a storm when we arrived and that wrote off 24 hours and after a couple of scorchers, the week was largely cloudy. more chance of storms in september i think

I've been to Ibiza the last 5 years but I always go in July. This year I'm going to go for the closing of Space and DC-10. Space always closes the first Sunday of October right? So is it safe to say that October 1st and 2nd will be the closing of Space and DC10?

Thanks

What is the 6am closing law? Is that for all clubs all the time, or just certain ones at certain times? That really sucks if everything closes at 6am cause I like to go out late and stay late!:(

parties

I like the Opening parties better myself; but the closing parties are great but the ques are tooooooo long. The opening parties are cheaper and you have just the right amount of people to have a blast.

what about the weather?
i went late in season last year and it was brrrr
not just the storm but brrr like late at night
whats it like early
i am not liking any chill at all
when i am in ibiza i want that blazin relentless heat that really slows everything down until you are in a club hearing the 4 beat and then it really speeds everything up
maybe i go mid season

weather

I always go in June the weather has been hot except for 1 year when i went for space opening early June(03 I think) hella storm as we were landing shut down the beach for a couple of days, but I love June

Exactly. Openings are full but not rammed, just like I like it.

The other thing I don't like about the closings is the let-down afterwards. The season's over. Lots of places close the next day. If you go for the closings, don't stick around an extra couple of days (unless you really just want to chill).

I'm in the Opening Parties camp - I prefer it if the clubs aren't too rammed, and everyone has joy of making it through another european winter (less so for Spanish and Italian visitors!) It's also a bit cheaper to go at the beginning of June, and it's not so depressing coming home after because at least you've got the summer to look forward to :)

Closing parties last year were amazing of course, but won't be doing them this year (he says resolutely).

Openings for me too

peeps are fresher and the energy levels are sky high.i've found the closings can be a little less fun as peeps are a wee bit partied out.

the weather is more reliable in June, it's cheaper and the clubs are less rammed.

Closings for me.

The 2 Cocoon Closings i've been to have been 2 of the best of my life.

They tend to go on and on as well, as a last excuse to party !

I don't know about opening parties. But my first time in Ibiza was for the Closing Parties and everything people said here is true:
- They tend to go on and on as well, as a last excuse to party
- Weather is more unpredictable in september (altho, my experience of 14 days in september only counted 1 rainy day and a couple of cloudy days)
- That Sep 15-30 time period is good for catching a lot of closings

- the closing parties have that added spice of 'the last dance/chance to party'........and thus, are often more emotional/wild/memorable --> this is what makes the closings even more special, imo.

Besides, people already know which party is the best, which CD is the best, which DJ is a good surprise, so you can't go wrong on the closings.

June is my favourite time because it it a bit quieter, you are guaranteed sun every day and the big tunes haven't been caned to death on the radio yet. Even so, I might go in September next time just to remind myself what Sunset Strip looks like at that time of year (found some photos from my first trip last week and was shocked how busy it was), take advantage of the earlier sunset for extended drinking time and get drenched in those fantastic Ibiza downpours!
