you're probably referring to ibiza uncovered. it didn't represent ibiza as it is at all, instead going for shock tactics to get viewers. most users of this forum grimace when the words ibiza uncovered are spoken together! as polack says, theres a small strip of pubs and small clubs (you wont believe how small this area is if you watched ibiza uncovered, theyd have you thinking it was the wholse island!) in the west end of san antonio but even thats not as bad as its made out to be. still, you'd probably be better off going staying in the bay, or in ibiza town or playa den bossa. if you stay in san an theres some cool bar/clubs like hush/plastik/savannah to check out as well as the infamous sunset strip and of course the wonderful sunsets.
its also very easy to make friends in ibiza, you cant go to ibiza and not make friends, it just doesnt happen! its a wonderful place. i tried to convince my girlfriend for years to go with me but she wouldn't, and i ended up not going in all that time, only when we split up. i think you'd have a wonderful time there. this board is full of stories of couples who have gone out there and came back engaged they were so in love with the place and each other.
clubs are fantastic and nothing like the meat markets back home. heres a tip though, the main section of this website has loads of hotels and apartments to suit all budgets. if you can arrange your own flights id highly recommend booking off here. package tours tend to leave you a day and a half short. this september im flying out on the 24th for we love sundays closing at space. im paying £130 return (including taxes) for my flights, and my room between me and my pal yvonne is costing £130, so thats just £65 each for 7 nights.
id also recommend hiring a car, as it gets you out and about to all the special places on the island. im getting one for the whole week again but even a day or two out and about is great fun. you may even meet others out there who will hire with you to save costs, thats what me and my pal chris did in 2004, easily the best day of the holiday. theres some others chipping in with me and yvonne and its costing us all an extra £30 for the week. hardly extortionate considering the benefits of having one for 7 days!
also, remember to keep coming back here on a daily basis (should you decide to go of course) to get yourself super excited about it, and get a feel for whats happening around the island when you get there. this is the number one resource for info about the island, and you'll benefit from others' experience and recomendations like i have for the past 2 years.
