Ok, LAST question about CD decks (not 'which ones...')

For those who 'play out' and have used different cd decks...

Is it relatively easy to switch between different manufacturers models?

Here's my scenario..

I have been offered some Denon s5000 at quite a good price, but I was hoping to get the pioneers cdj 1000. having never really spent that much time on turntables at all, I shall be learning from scratch 'how to mix'.

Should I hold out/ pay the extra (about £500 squidos) and get the pioneers? Or should I just get the denons (which are probably better, but not that prevalent in club systems - which I hope to be using soon!)

I would save the money and get the denons if there's that much of a price difference. I find most cd players are pretty easy to pick up. If u get a gig where you'll be using cdj-1000's then just goto a shop and say your interested in buying them... test em out ;)

One thing though... learn how to mix using the pitch bend buttons or pitch fader alone as well as using the 'platter' because when you first start playing out it wont be on cdj-1000's, most likely some craplabs cdj mk 666 and it wont have all the features your used to.

Get the Denon's Dan. I've got a s-3000 and I'm very happy with it. Much better build quality than the Pioneer cdj-800. (same price)
the cdj-1000 is very easy to use. I don't know many tricks on it because I don't have one to practice on but I've found it to be very easy to use for normal mixing when I've played out. You'll be fine.

I had to use these beasts on friday night

suppose they are ok! I quite like the jog wheels on them for some reason! But when one of the play buttons is sticky and doesnt work well, its a nightmare

Cheers for the responses guys.

It's still an agonising decision.

Hopefully I'll be seeing you all Friday to let you know the outcome!

Alex - Was thinking of your cd the other day. I still cant find a tune better than Dusk til Dawn to start a mix cd off! (am thinking of using it in my latest effort!)

Monkeh - (any news on sending me that Marbles CD!)

I know what you mean, it's a killa of a track and sets the whole mix up nicely. Danny Howells also opened his set with it in Pacha this september. I guess I'll allow him that privilege though.

Well........what did ya decide to do x-amount? been thinking about buying the stanton s-450's myself. from what i can see they're not far off the quality of the cdj1000's(barr the smart card and a couple of other small things) but theyre half the price.

depends how quick you are at picking things up!

thing ive found about CD Decks is they all require a different touch.
