In all honesty we can't believe we made it this far. We thought we would be dead or in jail by now. Started with 50 bucks and a pipe dream, Octopus has grown into one of the top 5 selling Techno labels on Beatport in the last two years. Refusing management deals and buy-ins along the way, we are proud to be truly independent. We wanted to rock the balls off everyone on the 50th release so we went all out. Label boss enfant terrible Sian put brains in unison with label boffin Chris and they came up with a package that has one setting, kill.
Sian buried himself in his black cube of a studio in Barcelona and hammered out his toughest and most adventurous tracks yet. Both "The Police Man Inside You" and "Famous Child Actor" have a main room swagger that has become very evident in the Octopus catalogue. Wonked out bass and cerebral vocal lines, dark synth waves and production like polished chrome... Its a sound very typical of his high energy DJ sets, showcasing what the label stands proudly representing, classic modern techno.
Ambivalent always struck us as a standout USA artist, if only for his refusal to repeat his easily successful formula with mega smash tracks on Minus. He is constantly reinventing, and swoops between Techno and House with immense bravado. His mix is moody, ravey and dips its wick in acid on the way, through a brain melting 6 mins. Sam Paganini has been a long time cohort of the label. Recently he sky rocketed on labels like Drumcode and Cocoon but keeps his basement rave sensibilities in check always. Spanking hot drums and sleek gliding breaks, he rounds off the package with full force Italian dance floor magic.
