I really know someone will have a comment .. bad, or good, about this!

Have had one already .. from another board ..

" northern soul, skinny drugged up white lads in huge trousers and skimpy vests, dancing like twats to soul in places like wigan.

and it seems to me there was a bigger drug scene there than there is today, tho today like i expect it was back then, not everyone has to take drugs to go out. "

Gutted !

You might not have liked it .. but it was instrumental in where you are today!

Saffy, in the 70's I was a prodominately a Soul DJ (hence the screenname), however, for the life of me I just couldn't get into Northern Soul. As a DJ I would occasionally get asked for some and the only two records that I used to use were;

Mistura - The Flasher
The Exciters - Reaching For The Best

I still have them on vinyl as well as on mp3 and keep meaning to slot 'em in one night when DeeJaying, just never seem to 'get round to it', perhaps this weekend.

One of my DJ mates was well into it and occasionally visited Wigan Casino, still has tons of the stuff.

I'm afraid that is about all my total knowledge of Northern Soul, sorry.

I dont mind a bit of northern soul now and then saff! Got a mate who's a soul dj so i get encouraged to listen to it. I watched a documentary about it a while ago and i got interested in it cos o' that. My mate keeps telling me how Jimmy saville was the first person to take two record decks and start playing songs out one after another at parties. JIMMY SAVILLE ffs!

I have seen this term, I always wondered what it was. Can you point out more examples? Still amazes me, the variety of music there is coming from places where there arent black people. :D

Try this

I actually wrote my thesis for my Sociology of Music Masters Degree (albeit only at Manchester Metropolitan Pretend University) on the role of the Music of Black America in British Society in the 1960's.

As I did, clubbers of today will find these clips fascinating viewing........I sometimes wish I'd experienced that scene first hand.

i work with a bloke he loves his northern soul. there was a night on near me in Fleetwood last saturday and one of my mates went. he said it was like being in a KFC advert surrounded by over 40's of there nut!!

The bloke i work with is over 40 white skinny and allways wears a northern soul vest!!!

They also had a modern room there that played house music he said

btw I have some spare copies of my thesis if anyone would like to read it.

Just pm me your address and credit card details and I´ll have my secretary send you a copy.
