ok... no ibiza again for me this year... going on a 2 week all inclusive to the dominican republic, for some R&R, spot of fishing, golf, watersports...

seeing as theres a severe lack of a Dominican Spotlight, and the "reviews" on trip advisor being very mixed for most hotels, and with a slight North American bias, has anyone been on here, cos all the resorts seem much the same to me.

ta in advance.

Son,

One of the women I work with went last year (her hubby is a golfer/sailor) I have mailed her for a review for you.....

Mum xx

My best mate went at Xmas she absolutely loved it, cant give much advice though because I dont think they ventured far out of the hotel all inclusive etc etc

Probs not the best review - but I do know she likes expensive holidays and has been to most of the carribbean and thinks a lot of it is sh*te.... :?

"I have been there but it was a long time ago and we were evacuated because there was a hurricane heading our way. That aside it was good and the hotels were a good standard (but we were in a 4/5 star). As I remember we went to a place called Playa Dorada near a place called Sousua (which was a bit of a dump at the time) the area consisted of a number of hotels and restaurants located around a golf course and casino security patrolled etc and unlike other Caribbean hols you could walk around without fear of being mugged etc. But like I said it was a long time ago (before I had xxxxxxxx so at least 15 years) so it could well have changed a lot since then

So apart from the hurricane I think it was a good hols !"

well, for a start i aint going in hurricane season (sept onwards)

I've heard nothing but rubbish reports from the Dominican Republic. Sorry. But mostly based on the fact that there is little to do outside of the resort and it's quite dangerous. However as it seems you intend to simply stay within the resort then I guess these reports won't concern you.

PS: Why have an attention grabbing tagline and refuse to explain what it means when people ask? Is it to create an air of mystique?

this is the thing. mixed reports... Cuba is also an option, but also ive had mixed reports from people. (friend im going with, his uncle went to cuba and got burgled...).

PS. ;) ive ran out of kinder eggs.

I have heard Cuba is fcking great. Hiring a car and getting out and about is apparently the best way to enjoy the place.

where you going Chow?? if you know the resort go onto tripadvisor.com and type it in, loads of reviews there with traveller photos!! ;)

True, need to take American reviews with a bit of salt. Often people who don't travel so much or only have something to complain about.

Have you thought about Puerto Rico? Safe by comparison... perhaps a bit more expensive but should be nice. We looked at going there for new years before settling on Cancun.

My best friend went there last year with her hubby and another couple.....they had sh1te weather but had a brilliant time.....8)

Alot of the time a holiday is what you make...

aint cancun full of yanks who treat it like the brits treat the costa del sol?
Our hotel was packed full of mostly Brits. They had football up on the screens at the bar at all hours.

It's closer to the US so you get more American tourists... and the university kids invade the place for Spring Break in March.

But there are still plenty of Europeans around.... one bar we visited opened early on Saturdays to show live EPL matches. We watched Chelsea v Fulham there with about 10 other supporters.

I think it depends on which hotel you choose...
