Was it worth it? Going to Uni I mean...
some people in my work have just come out of uni and are paying HUUUGE loans off, IMO it was a waste of time because they're below me, someone who never went to uni! I think unless you're going to specialise in something i.e Medicine, Teaching etc, Uni is a waste of time!

especially relevent now our company has been put in charge of implementing artwork thats a "Big Global Agency" has managed not to do very well (theyre supposed to be putting together a guidelines document, but if you see the state of the way theyve done things, I wonder what these are going to be like). i think they must have let the junior loose on it.
loan amounted to just over 4 grand. i deferred it for 4 years tho which is why ive only just paid it back.

Yes, Becks, it is worth it. My diploma has opened a lot of doors, even though my degree is in a somewhat different field than my career. You also come away with different processes for analyzing and presenting information. It's useful in anything you do.
Not that you can't get by without it. I know some very successful people who did not complete their degrees.

Why not, Chewie? I studied political science with no plans to make a career of it. I chose it because it was interesting, having taken a class on the history of communism in my first semester that was totally engrossing. (and much more interesting than chemistry, which was my initial choice).
A secondary reason I chose poli-sci was because it's one of the more traditional degrees for people going to graduate school for law... I ended up not continuing on though.
Still, I think that educational background is quite useful in what I do (public relations/public affairs).

I think most people who go to university don't know what they want to do at 18.... and some of us still don't!
University never used to be about finding a career or a job. It was a place for higher learning and then people who had that higher learning were considered to have a liberal education to be able to learn and adpat to the job they chose. Universities used to be about studying the classics or sciences
Now, its more of a trade school.
You study business or dentistry or engineering.. very specific things..
Most people I know who are my age, twenty eight and over are doing something COMPLETELY different form what they studied at uni nearly 10 years ago.

Completely agree, my degree is in Criminology, at the time I did want to go into Law but after starting my Law conversion course after my agree I found it so dull and somehow ended up in Marketing
But I know that if I hadn't got my degree it wouldn't have opened loads of doors to me in my career.Plus you can't knock 3 years of student life
