news of the world today page 19 says that as from tomorrow ibiza will be a no smoking zone and smokers can only smoke in designated zones or face a 350 euro fine.............whats that all about.........i cant belive it just telling you waht i read anyone heard anything???
 
it's true. the balearic government introduces the new law tomorrow. it means people who want to smoke can only do so in designated zones in public places (restuarants for example).

this means also that people who do not smoke can now venture out into a non polluted environment which seems fair enough to me as a non smoker.

Balears será la pionera en adoptar la prohibición de fumar en lugares de trabajo, restaurantes, centros comerciales, entidades financieras, instalaciones deportivas y espacios cerrados al aire libre contemplados en la Ley de Drogodependencia con régimen sancionador. La medida empezó a aplicarse a partir de ayer domingo.
Según la consellera de Salud y Consumo, el Parlament aprobó la ley el pasado mes de abril. En los restaurantes y bares será competencia de los propietarios habilitar o no una zona para los fumadores. La consellera destacó que la aprobación de la ley contó con un soporte unánime por parte del sector empresarial, a excepción de los dueños de establecimientos que por falta de espacio no podrán habilitar dicha zona.
El Govern firmó un convenio con la Pyme y otro con la CAEB, que constituirán la comisión de seguimiento para delimitar de forma específica los lugares a los que se aplica la prohibición y resolver las consultas de los empresarios a propósito de la entrada en vigor de la ley.
En caso de denuncia de un no fumador a los responsables de un establecimiento y de la falta de actuación de los mismos, el cliente podrá acudir a la justicia.
Bartomeu Jaume Roig, coordinador Autonómico de Drogodependencia, recordó que la OMS gasta entre un 20 y un 15% del presupuesto total sanitario en enfermedades relacionadas con el tabaquismo. Esta ley `pretende ser además de un órgano sancionador, un órgano preventivo´. En relación a la entrada en vigor de la ley, la consellería informó sobre la puesta en marcha del CRIDA, un nuevo servicio de información, orientación y asesoramiento sobre drogas.

it mentions enclosed places (no fresh air) so presumably the clubs fall into this category as they all have to be enclosed after midnight. still i suppose that means you will no longer get any ciggy burns in your nice new outfit while you're out dancin'

I remember everythin in Boston going non-smoking when I lived there... and that was early 1990s.

Sorry guys... I smoke, and I hate restrictions. Russia, and Spain, are great because so many people smoke that it's not an issue most of the time :D

350 euros ! thats a tad steep ! where exactly can you smoke then? Can't see that going down to well- good for the non smokers tho !
 
I'm totally for the non-smoking law. I smoke on occasion but I HATE being in a confined space with poor ventilation and smokers about. After a night out in a crowded smokey club I have to blow out black smoke boogers...gross. Sorry smokers but I can live w/out black smoke boogers.
 
What I don't like of smoke- apart of being a passive smoker with all the consecuences that haves- is that I allways cry because of smoke, once I start my eyes keep crying, so everytime I go to a disco or a bar with smoke I have to put artifial tears and repeat the operation neally every hour. It's a little bit annoying.
 
God this is terrible.

So if you're on fire, not only do you get awful burns, but you may also be hauled in front of the local magistrates for a by-law misdemeanour 8O

I must ensure I stay near to the shore at all times.

And we can all forget about BBQs...
