New York.

Hi there.

My boyfriend and I are looking to visit New York sometime next year as one of our holidays. The other one being a fortnight trip to Ibiza of course!

We plan to go for about 4 or 5 days, cheap as possible without being dodgy.

Any ideas of where to stay and things to do would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks in advance!!

Hey Funky Lady.

Prob best to do a New York thread search as I asked this question a month ago. Should be a half decent repsonse in that one for you to get your teeth into.

Hope this helps

cheap accomodation....

http://www.whitehousehotelofny.com/

$30 a night. cheap, clean, secure... although can get noisy with people coming and going so take yr ear plugs. not the most spacious of places (my single room was 1 ft wider than size of small single bed!)

is right by soho tho.

Cielo, nice club, shite doorstaff. very selective of who they let in. (usually tell u to come back at 2am).

Roger Sanchez @ Crobar, last sat of each month. - can prob get you on the guestlist if needed. ;)

other various nights going on, can put you in touch with my NYC agents. 8)

as a recent visitor.........u can saturate urself in info re NYC.

my only advice would be to try and plan a few definites for the trip and then leave urself some spare time to revisit places or check somethin that may be of interest.

midtown is probably the best place to stay but most pricey and u can save loads stayin further north on manhattan (and the metro is efficient to be honest it doesn't really matter too much)

bars/going out/clubbing wise - seemed very spread out and small pockets of activity all over rather than a great concentration of clubs/bars. weirdly, 3 of the best and coolest bars i went to didn't have signs outside and looked like empty shells (in flatiron district).

If i was going bar hoppin and tryin to soak up the NYC atmosphere i'd defo go to SoHo, Greenwich Village (of course) and some of the more edgey places that are up and coming, TriBeCa or Canal Street in general.

Make sure u have a meal in Little Italy, Mulberry Street is very touristy but a must for a first timer.

Last advice, try and travel there and back so u avoid more expensive days like Thursday to Sunday. Going on wed and coming back Mon would save u a bit i think

Good advice Chewie! I have myself never been to NYC. Most of the time I have thought that if I am going to fork out major bucks then I might as well see another culture. But $30/night is peanuts.

Anybody else with some info on good places to stay?

Roger Sanchez @ Crobar

Lovely club but 'urgh'...full of New Jersey types - not a very nice crowd at all. Crobar is only worth it for one offs and mid weekers.

good cheap hotel is hotel arlington off broadway, 100 yard away from flatiron.

bedrooms look like part of the set on Kojak when he'd shake down some punks!!

But for about £20pppn, its the best price around anywhere nr. midtown and its clean too.

anyone know it???

I saw Roger on his first night back in NY after Ibiza at Crobar - I was horrified by the crowd. Same Roger, same music, but 50,000 volts of ugly and attitude compared to Pacha Ibiza. No one in there had any right to be a diva with the way they were dressed - does Tesco sell clubbing clothes?!

I sincerely hope that Pacha NY will be an exception. If the club itself gives off a certain atmosphere, it should be able to attract a more cosmopolitan crowd, rather than just being another McNightclub that packs them in like the rest. I walk into Avalon and Crobar and feel like ordering a hamburger when I pass by the rows of cash registers.
